Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
I haven't seen a lot of those either. Some of them might have been in the PC Gamer preview of Alpha Centauri. Does anyone have that issue? Most of the factions have different names and the interface looks like the ones shown here. There are even some full-body artwork for some of the facation leaders (like Yang of the Labyrinth). If anyone wants to see them, I could scan them.
It's really Synthetic God... I guess I didn't notice my own typo.

Some of these, mostly the diplomatic screen and unit workshops, look nicer than the finished product. Terrain map and base screens are just plain ugly though
Wow, some of that is really nice, especially with the bit with the singularity laser. Too bad it couldn't make it into the finished product that way -- but I'm sure that it's for a reason.
Art in prototype games is almost always bad in at least some places. They don't want to bother with refining it yet; they want to get stuff on the screen. What you see of prototypes in magazines and stuff is usually just the "good stuff"; there's lots you don't see, and (from an advertising standpoint) for good reason.
