For those who would prefer a more friendly environment to chat about non-gaming related topics, we now have a dedicated forum for that.

Gruff Off Topic (If you run into a troll, just tell them to wait for Big Brother to come along and pass on by.)

- Be respectful of others.
- If you have a problem with a poster or content, report it privately to a moderator.
- Posting private messages (real or fake) is not allowed.
- No lewd, illicit, illegal, or hateful content will be allowed.
- Discuss the topic, not the poster.
- Posters are not valid topics.

I've also taken ads off of the original OT and OT archives because Google started getting annoyed with some of the content. This mostly falls under the "near-porn" category of images, content, and links to it. So "lewd" will cover a lot more than it does in most of our estimations. I'm going to just say no Babe thread in the GOT to keep it simple. Use the Babe thread in the OT if you must.

Probably a good move to try this, but just out of curiosity - do you think it will work?

It'll work if people want to use it. If not enough people want to use it, it's not really a loss if it doesn't work.

Another piece of advice then. Add to the rules one against correcting others spelling or sentence structure. That tends to chase away foreigners whose English skills are not strong.

Its one reason why CFC has so many Eastern Europeans.

Reactions in the Troll Pen indicate no one has read you explanation about the name, Aeson, and nobody gets the joke - maybe something about the biggest goat added to the name?

Maybe just "Civilized OT"? -Or since you can't format that in the name, "CIVIL(ized) OT".

I dunno about this, although I have agitated for something along the same lines elsewhere in the past, and I know Lori was talking a lot about the same thing here about the same time. Since you've taken a whirl, I urge a lot of patience to give it time to grow and find its constituency. It does put a better face on the forum for newbs and old-timers, alike, not interested in peeing in an ocean of pee, but still wanting to chat about whatever.

The Troll Pen is a robust thing, for all its problems - I doubt it will be hurt much by this.

I'm conflicted about whether to volunteer my Smilies thread to be moved - I can think of only four posts that need editing or deletion to bring it up to decent standards (plus the current title), but part of its purpose needs it where the people are...

Anyway, do give it time to become what it can be. Clearly, there's people willing to go to some trouble to support the idea, and that's hard to beat for a start - more should follow in time.
