  • No More History Forum - Folded back into the OTF

We have been reviewing the stats for the site, and it is becoming very clear that the History Forum is not living up to it's expectations. It got off to a good start, but any momentum it gained early has been lost. While there are still some who have expressed a strong desire to keep it seperate from the OT, the stats speak for themselves.

We would love your opinions on the subject. I did not create a poll, because we are interested in your thoughts and comments, and not just an invisible head count.

Before you post, keep in mind that this is ONLY about the History Forum. The Sports Forum is going strong and we see no reason to make any changes there.
As to the Technology Forum, that may become a future discussion, but is not on the table now.

So, let's hear what you have to say about the History Forum... its Future is in your hands.

    Thank you.
    Keep on Civin'
RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

If we get rid of the History Forum, we're going to forget the lesson that history teaches us, which is that creating subforums is a bad idea and should be avoided. Therefore, we should keep the History subforum around so that we remember not to have subforums.

I say zap it, and then bring it back, so History can repeat itself.

It was more fun viewing those types of thread when they were part of the regular OT. It doesn't take much dedication to keep them from falling off the front page.
Admit it's failure and roll it back into the OT.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Like Old Yellar, it may hurt to put down a family pet {project} but its best in the long run

I concur, remove and fold back into OT

Let there be no future to the history forum. I agree.
              Duh, what's the history forum.

If you give any weight to my opinion then you MUST be out of your minds: I have even visited the OT FORUM maybe 5-6 times in my life.

Although I normally expressed my support for the history forum, I wouldn't mind it being locked either. There's not enough special interest on this site to maintain it, and any general history thread fits well into the OT.

As for the peculiar thread title, it reminds me of one chapter headline in GGS, "the future of human history as a science". I think that if there's a science called future of history, then the future of history should also have a subforum. Discuss.

Not that it probably amounts to a Hill of Beans either way to me, just curious, since not an overwhelming amount of traffic, would it not be simpler to just fold them back into the OT (By them, i mean the various threads) or would they instead be archived?

Again, Im not passionate about it being closed or opened as a seperate forum or sub forum if thats the correct wording, just wondering why either you or dan or rah or Locutus just doesnt "make it happen"?

I know you value our opinions but since not many posters giving input, is that not in and of itself a definitive answer, by 2 counts (one not having much traffic to start with and two not much response here?)

                      Just sharing/commenting

Our intent (unless a lot of support appears from nowhere) was to fold it back into the OT... no threads would be lost or archived. However, it will be a LOT HARDER to find any of them

I enjoy many of the History threads...when I remember to stop in and look at them. Would be seen a lot more in the OT, but anything long term would sadly sink at an alarming pace. More would benefit, I think, from them being in the OT...even if they are harder to find after a short amount of time.

I dno't have strong feelings either way, but I'm ok with folding it back into the main OT.

I like the sports forum though.
