Civ4 is lightyears better than Civ3.

It's a matter of personal preference, but I think if you polled people on this site, opinion would run something like 99% in favor of Civ 4. Some people hated Civ 3, some thought it was a decent game. If you can talk your friend into buying Civ 4, that is probably the best solution.

I certainly wouldn't return CivIV, though. I take it you got the original? In any event, I recommend installing the latest patch for whichever version you have.

If after that you play the game for a bit and don't like it, you could always re-gift it.

Four is a much improved game in the spiriit of Civ II, a real headscratcher about building a civ and dealing with the rest of the world. Civ III did not have that spirit. Civ IV has many innovations as compared to Civ III, most of which make the game more fun without being too much more complex. While still retaining some tediousness in the late game, Civ IV with the BTS upgrade is more interesting in every era than Civ III. Enjoy the game. Get your friend to convert. Join the living.

Not really. Posting in the Civ4 forum would likely result in flawed results, same applies to the Civ3 forum.

No, that forum was made for discussion of future Civ games.

Welcome and since manners have slipped to an unacceptable manner, here, for your pleasure:

its a ritual and rite of passage, welcome

Now, both games mentioned have qualities acceptable, however, CIV III: Conquests does have a few glaring flaws but you can certainly learn to accept them.

Please jump in at the various forums, we have some PBEM Play by email, stories in case you want, as many do, add some character to your epic sagas of struggles.

Go ahead, write a storyline based upon the civilization you are playing. Submit and it'll add some flavor to your struggles.

Multiplayer is also available, and with those suggestions, get involved and we look forward to hearing how all is going!

Civ4, in my opinion (and in most people's, including the developer of both games'.)

It's of course a matter of personal preference. You should be able to download the demo version of Civ4 from firaxis.com if you want to try it out...

Is that a French flag there NewOne? Very nice. The answer is Civ III is the very best. Trade in Civ IV for it.

Here is one (of that 1% minority that DaveV said...).

I wasn't a big fan of Civ3, but played it still quite a lot. (had good things also)

Civ4 I played maybe 3-5 games - after that it's just been sitting in the box that is in my bookshelf. HUGE disappointment to me...
