  • ModCast #3: "The Fat, the Hairy and the Ugly"

The third episode of ModCast is here, an official podcast of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS). "The Fat, the Hairy and the Ugly" (49m41s) features the four core panelists Wouter "Locutus" Snijders, Tony "GarretSidzaka" Kiehl, Kenneth "Impaler[WrG]" Ferland and Oscar "Elhoim" Velzi.

ModCast is a bi-weekly ~45-minute audio production of Apolyton Civilization Site and is an ongoing effort to give the Civ community an interactive voice on Civilization modding; its sibling show PolyCast focuses on Civ strategy. To date, ACS is the only community on the web to produce its own Civilization podcasts.

    Summary of Topics:

    - 01m53s | News
We talk about some Civilization: Revolution screenshots, discussing how moddable that game will be and the future of modding in general.
    - 13m29s | Artist Sketchpad
Looking at Simon Bolivar by Ekmek, Lech Walesa by bernie14, the Lockheed U-2 by asioasioasio, a Flamethrower by AlazkanAssassin and an Avro Vulcan by snafusmith.
    - 27m45s | Cartography Room
About a mapscript this week: Continents and Islands by jam3.
    - 32m29s | Spotlight
We focus on LDiCesare's Tectonics, one of the most sophisticated map scripts available for Civ4, of which v3.15 was recently released.

It took an all-nighter, which is long enough when it comes to remembering the date

I've heard of tectonics before... It's really an old concept, since it dates back to the earliest Civ4 map scripts if I remember right.

And it's still a brilliant idea.

Oh, right the show. Its ok, it reminds me of the early polycasts in a good way.

Didn't mean to imply the current polycast episodes aren't good, they are different from the early polycasts.

I am drunk right now so I'll take a rain check on explaining the specifics.

I didn't think you were implying that , but appreciate the confirmation. I was/am curious about what about earlier PolyCasts and ModCasts currently (or this episode anyway) share in the 'good' category.

Thanks for mentioning the leaderheads; I hadn't realized just how GOOD some of those modern leaderheads were. I'm playing around with a mod that will include some new civs/leaders, and I was afraid that I'd have to use static pictures....that (hopefully) won't be the case.

And I was using Tectonics before tectonics was cool.

However.....as long as all hope is lost to avoid political BS in the modcasts:

1.) Garrett -- learn some history, man! You're making us look like jerks in front of the foreigners....

2.) Between EPA, OSHA, the Family Assistance Plan, and detente, I'm not sure you can honestly call Nixon a 'conservative' even in comparison with his contemporaries in the GOP (such as: Reagan, Goldwater, Connally, Dole, etc.,) let alone by today's standards.

3.) Bolivar is here to plague us with misery in the name of nationalism.
"The nation that controls magnesium controls the universe."

In a nutshell? Well they goof around a bit more, and the show feels like its still trying to catch its balance.
