  • Remove the "redirecting to" page

This thing is too damn 1998...

I think everyone's learned by now that the internet is an open space and closed gardens don't survive. Anything that interferes with a person trying to leave this site to a linked URL is really bad user experience.

A barrier to other sites is annoying and the cure for that is to leave to less annoying sites. I don't think this is something Apolyton should encourage.

When a link is featured on the forums, the link follower intends to come back to this site to post a comment about it. This will no doubt add another page-view and increase ad exposure. So no need for that annoying page.

I doubt the redirection page is responsible for much of your income. I also bet that all people press on the "skip" link while muttering a curseword or two.

And finally - 15 seconds is eternity in internet time. We have fast connections and the ad loads instantly (assuming it isn't blocked by my browser). We decide whether we're gonna click it immediatelly. Most times the answer is "no". Then we have 14 seconds to stare at the page. Most people could have skimmed through 2 posts by that time. Some people could make 2 posts by that time.

Face it - it is annoying - it is 1998 - and it is too long.

    It has to go

It will be removed completely in time. I say in time because it's been used and referred to for so long that removing all references to it on-site is/will be laborious.

That said, I have modified the re-direct page to be considerably more seamless (in relative terms at least). I agree its complete removal is long overdue and the reminder is appreciated.

Hopefully this interim solution I've applied is seen as a decent one.

              it was solved ya'll

btw this is a very good sign for the site.

to be frank, i was expecting some sort of well constructed "no thanks" note from DanQ, cause i picture him as very conservative regarding changes.

I don't mean to embarrass you by stating the obvious, but if you set the reload time to 0 seconds and an otherwise null page it should be trivial to get rid of it without having to update all links ever made..just going forward, don't put in the links - and for old links, have it on a 0 second redirection.

You're not embarrassing anyone, not even yourself.

I'm certain there's a technical way to completely bypass the forward without updating the many, many links that still refer to it, but that's beyond my technical knowledge... I'll leave that to a technical admin. to manage when they have a moment.

just going forward, don't put in the links - and for old links, have it on a 0 second redirection.
That's what is being done and has been done.
