DQ, I went to the page you told me a clicked on the links to the individual episodes but all I got was 'page not available'. Checked the top ones, about six or seven, gave up, played civ, got killed, your fault.

yeah! i was really glad that Wouter was there. i'm not replacing him, that's not the idea of the change and nobody could replace him anyway. it was nifty for him to be with me for my first one. i was going to ask him to do it but someone else posted the idea before i could. if Imran's there next episode and Maki's not, i just know i'm in for a world of trouble!
AAHZ, i know Dan already addressed some of your points but even i want you to be honest, even when it's about me, so don't worry about that. you weren't mean in the way you said anything, so i can handle it. about all i can say for the "bubbly giggly" part is, i've been that way for over 30 years so i don't think that will change. i really hope that doesn't end up making a show that you used to enjoy become unlistenable. i'm a giggler by nature, always have been. i'm sure you won't hear as much of it when the full team is on the show, so hopefully that's an argument to give it another chance.
i do fully expect future episodes to be better as far as my ignorance, since this one particularly highlighted what i'm worst at -- knowing anything about the history of the world. when Dan posted the topic list so that we could prep for the show, i warned him that i could send in excuse notes from at least 10 history teachers about why i really shouldn't be part of that discussion! but then two co-hosts weren't there, so there wasn't a discussion between four other people like i'd expected, so that i could just sit back and listen during that part. there are plenty things i'm not an expert about, but i don't think i'm ignorant about practically all areas, and i hope that'll start to come across. history and geography tho, yup, an 8 year old could probably beat me at trivial pursuit on those topics.
as soon as we were done taping the episode, i started hoping i'd get better as we do more shows. before i heard the final, and before i read your post. i'm optimistic about it. and i'm sure the shows will be better when the full team is there, even if i personally don't improve as quickly as i hope to .
jkp: it's terrible! i can't just call it Poly now, i have to learn to pronounce it this Canadian/Greek way. oh boy.

That's the spirit! When the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor, we didn't just give up! Instead, we kept fighting 'till we pushed 'em north of the 38th parallel where they belong!

you can't fool me! that one i know about. my great-grandmother remembered Pearl Harbor very vividly, and lived long enough that i got to spend lots of time with her as a teenager. i interviewed her for a report in high school about that Pearl Harbor thing. one of the few interesting reports i ever did. the Japanese did it. but i don't know anything about a 38th parallel? the phrase "54-40 or fight" is familiar but i'd have to wiki to see what it refers to, or if those are even the right numbers. probably football.
the one military history thing i know with 100% certainty is from my grandmother from the other side of my family, who was born in the deep south US. "there was nothing civil about that war!" i think she meant a different war, though.
ps that is semi-sorta civ-related. Pearl Harbor-remembering great-grandmother was my daddy's grandmother, and dad played civ2, civ3, CTP, and civ4. atm he's hooked on galciv2. he does know history, he just forgot to pass that gene on to me /sigh.

No I mean w o r k. The construction of the buildings you were all in, the paving of the roads you drove on to get there, the hanging of the power lines that carried the electrons that your show really consisted of...you know .... w o r k.

And, in a rare treat, an actual ON-topic post from me... Thank you, KMad for pointing out the perplexing Poly pronunciation problem. I've always called it "A-POLY-ton", not "A-Poll-ton", too.

Clearly, you were never a M*A*S*H fan....
Wow...Was your great-grandmother in Hawaii during the attack?
