Plans for 'Poly in 2008

So the new year has rolled along, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to get a taster from Dan and the other co-owners about what plans they have in store for our favourite website over the coming year.

It's no secret that traffic here is lower than it once was, and the other site that cannot be mentioned is now streets ahead for its Civ forums. There was a great OT thread some months ago containing an open discussion of this topic, and I think at least both Dan and Ming were participating.

So guys - what's up your sleeves?

The message here is that if LS has fun he will be banned from the site. My view on this is that if LS can't have fun, or doesn't like threats, he'll leave on his own as have so many over the years for just this reason.

Certainly. I only wanted to contribute to the sites future, but I understand how people might think my dealings with Ming might cloud my judgement instead of clarifying my understanding. I'll leave you to your "serious" discussion.

Lancer... only someone who has a bad history with Ming could see it that way. Or someone who is determined to see things in a bad light. It's obvious to everyone else that Ming was referring to LS's birthday threads and that he'd be banned if he started some 40 of those today. Which damn well should be a ban in that case.

This and that.

In all seriousness, we have a number of items "up our sleeves" (well put by the way, DS ). The processes could and can be moved along more quickly if we had/have a number of more willing, able, dedicated and trustworthy volunteers, but they are moving along nevertheless.

Can you tell us more about one of these items? And where do you want the site to be at the end of 2008 compared to where it is now?

PolyCon '08? This is the first I've heard that mentioned, but it's a nice thought. I can confirm that that's not on the table at present anyway.

Ok Dan, since you seem unwilling to say anything specific about plans, maybe you can expand a bit on goals for the site.

How many new users were there last year - and what's your goal for next year?

You might also want a Civ/non-Civ aspect to any planning given the increasing reliance on the OT to keep people coming here.
