When you say in black and white (text) "I think as chief owner you should pay more attention to claims made by your staff" with the prefaces "Are you in charge or not?" and "I don't want to be rude but", it comes across as attitude to me. Antagonism too.

I am glad to learn that that was not your intent -- as I emphasized in my original reply, it was how you said what you said much more that what you were saying that I found objectionable.

I know enough not to ask if you would be interested and available to assist as a volunteer yourself.

Actually, I had the same thought myself when I was reading this thread. If DrSpike is so anxious for an updated FAQ - why doesn't he take some initiative and put together a more up-to-date one and submit it to the powers that be?

            /me raises hand.

Some months ago, when the FAQ issue was first brought up, I actually told Ming that I'd be more than happy to help do editing work on it.

Well, on a side-note: IMO, volunteering is all fine and well...but following through with an actual product is what will get one noticed.

Now now people, ease up on DanQ. We should all be thankful we're still not on UBB.

While other sites have people technically able, Apolyton has to make do with the resources this site has. Nobody here is tech-savvy, so upgrading to the latest version of forum software is a process that takes years.

Actually, I don't remember your offer... but then again, that happens some times with old farts

Contact me via PM if you wish to discuss it more.
I have the bulk of it written, but I'm sure a good technical writer could improve upon it

Just like you didn't remember when I asked you to change my handle.

Anyways. Yeah, I'll send a PM your way.

I'd be happy to volunteer to help out, but due to time constraints only around the forums I currently visit (OG, A/C, Civ4), and I think you have those covered. But you can consider it an open offer if you like.

Also I know you are joking but would point out that I previously volunteered to help more fully when I had more time - in particular sending you Ming and MarkG a very lengthy PM on restructuring and moderating the Civ3 forums, during that dark period where Ming was notionally mod but only ever went there when people reported stuff. I didn't even get an acknowledgement of the time I had put into my proposals. I have to say this put me off a bit.

Um, reading comprehension is key. I don't mind at all about the FAQ - but I do think the chief owner should keep tabs on what other staff members are saying, and should be able himself to answer reasonable questions about progress on promised developments. A policy providing updates on previous commitments not yet met (perhaps for good reason of course) is just good management. Sorry if that offends you.

Spikey, while I do not actually know what happened on that occasion, I understand how it could put you off. I know it only from your other posts, though. Still - it'd be unwise to base any impressions on that. It was a long time ago, since then the administration has changed, the way the site is run has changed, it is quite different now.
