  • PolyCast Episode 14: "Much Rambling"

The official Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) podcast is now fourteen episodes young. In addition to `News` and `Modcast` the `Workshop` and `Senate` are front and centre in "Much Rambling". Co-hosted by Daniel "DanQ" Quick, Wouter "Locutus" Snijders, Imran Siddiqui, Makahlua and guest co-host Kenneth "Impaler[WrG]" Ferland, total runtime is 59m:35s (28.6MB).

PolyCast is a bi-weekly, roughly one-hour production in an effort to give the Civilization community now an interactive voice. Contributing greatly to the show`s interactive capability are means to call-in via Skype, telephone and email the co-hosts your questions or comments about Civ the game, community, or the show and Apolyton itself.

ACS is the first and to date only known Civ fansite to produce its own podcast.

I of course think the episode is excellent

I hope to make another appearance in the future.
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

Been listening... Yes there are people who listen to Polycast ( :P ) and I'd like to reply about the Civics Combinations topic about State Property.

Sometimes on small and mostly on Middle sized Empires where you have a City near a huge river, I'd like to Create a Production City from Watermills and Workshop improvements as I get a food bonus from the SP Civic.

Therefore I can benefit from the Hammers created by the Workshop without losing food needed to Feed the Workers/Citizens.

By that Point in the game with a Small to Middle size Empire I'm aiming for Space Race Victory and having a 2nd or 3rd Production City usually help, especially when the rest of my Empire is Commerce Focused.

And about the Economy Problem playing as Japan/Toku.

Playing the Merchant Economy usually helps in keeping your economy afloat during and after wars. Basically producing GM from Wonders and GM Specialist buildings like Markets and Grocers then send your GMs on Trade Missions to receive 1000+ Gold helps a lot.

Another Method of keeping your empire afloat is by razing captured Cities, you keep the gold from the city captured while Stagnating the opposing Civ's economy at the same time. Pillaging is also another Good method to keep your economy afloat.

Don't worry about Razing the Cities as you can settle/Capture that location later once you're economy recovers.

Edit *realizes I have a lot of grammar mistakes and wrong words used* :S lol

-- if we were brilliant, we could probably quit...

Thanks for the feedback , and feel free to expand on it if you so desire. In any event we are continuing to work to improve all aspects of the show.

A second thanks from me on the Japan pointers - I had forgotten a game I'd had where some timely GM's saved me by upgrading me to Longbows & giving me a cash cushion

                Things for me to remember!
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

After getting the "Cut" of Ep. 14, I started listening to the real thing (I got into the Polycasts several episodes later). My ears perked up at the between-segment "diplomatic" dialogues of leaders or players arguing (e.g., there's one at 36:48)! Great Stuff -- bring it back!

The clips that you cite are from Stargate Altantis' third-season episode "The Game". The series is now in its fourth season, but this episode was and remains one of my favourites of it still. I excised a number of clips from it that were particularly Civ-based and felt worked well as audio-only (with some editing in places) for inclusion in some episodes.

Your post prompted me to look into my show archive and discover that I do in fact have a few clips that I have yet to use. They'll appear in a future episode or two now that my memory has been jogged of them.

The clip that you reference specifically is my favourite of them all.
