  • If Apolyton is not a democracy...

    ... what is it?

There are several choices. Let's consider a few of them:

    Greek style Republic
Wise men (so called "filosofers" and "liberal arts people") enlighten us with their unmatched wisdom. Every theory is disputed in a civilized manner, be it even as phantastic as the famous "Nediverse" theory. Greek culture, Greek arts and Greek love everywhere. And Greek, as we know, are the roots of these sacred halls. But alas, recently the ancient culture has been overthrown by barbarianism (see below). Everything "Greek" has been either banned like the wise Pattios Cakos or demoted to technical mundaneness. With the Greeks gone and only Geeks remaining, the chance that we live in such an enlightened society are slim.

    Monarchy
There can be only one. He is the Alpha and Omega. His words are the law, and His pleasure is the duty of everyone. He can be wiseTM and mercifulTM, but if you bore Him, He can send you to the hangman or executioner with one move of His sacred hands. He has one or several court jesters, who entertain Him with their jokes and wit. But if they bore Him, with one hand move ... see above! Appalling theory, but apparently not true for Apolyton. First it has not one, but as it seems several fat cats. And second, concerning Mon-archy, a short browsing will reveal that this place is crawling with Kings and Emperors, nearly everyone who fails to be that, is at least a Prince. But nobody is a Peasant, and even Settlers get promoted to aristocracy after releasing just a few brain farts, which may even be off topic. So no, not a Monarchy, in my opinion.

    Fascist dictatorship
Heil! A few priviliged bigwigs and their myrmidions rule over their people, using harsh brainwashing methods. Obey to our rules or suffer the consequences (Read, respond or be restricted)! These rules are not carved in marble, but written down in the book "Mein FAQ". Which sounds like a profanity, by the way. The words "case closed" are typical, if you ignore this warning you're in for serious trouble. Dissidents are being incarcerated and probably tortured in a secret concentration camp. I heard a word containing "pulco" being mentioned, nothing is certain about its location, however. The lips of those who return from this place are sealed by fear and horror, but not many manage to be as lucky as recently Mr. Spink. This theory can't be true, though, because Ming doesn't have a moustache.

    Theocracy
A bunch of fanatical high priests pasture a drove of believing sheep, infested by quite some heathens (black sheep), who hence have to be hunted down and separated from the community of the good grey sheep by the dogs (the so called "mods"). Some of them are burned at the stake, where they die from pain and suffering, issuing sounds of agony like "Yo Yo Yo Hey". A sign for the correctness of this theory is clearly, that the ruling clergy fears the shot of a cleavage, a nice female butt or a male crotch more than the shot of a cannon, or a nuke going off. The religion is probably judaic or muslim, because "spiced pork and ham" (so called "SPAM") is a dish being frowned upon. Apparently a good choice!

    Barbarianism
Quite backwards. An army of Conans, ruled by a bunch of barbaric chieftains. "Civilization" is a foreign word for this uneducated lot. Most things their inhabitants communicate about are mindless drivel, verbalized with grunting and hissing sounds. How wierd! (sic!) Sounds right, but albeit the title "the merciless" of one of the big sachems also seems to support this choice, this theory does not hold water, as browsing these boards I saw the word "Civilization" being mentioned quite often.

    Banana Republic
Inhabitants eat so many banana, that they are all literally full of it. Nothing else to be said about this boring form of community. It has it's followers, though, like the mighty Lurd Shevo, who is so obsessed by this idea that he even forgot the roots of Ancient Indian Civilization over it. Provided for correctness only.

It's a dictatorship, but a relatively benevolent one.

That probably remains the most accurate description around...

I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

Or those who have been taught some manners not to spam a thread and flame the starter, if they have no interest in it. Don't have the will to contribute? Stay out. It's that simple. And if you really don't yet have heard the quite often cited sentence "Apolyton is not a democracy", it's your loss. I don't feel obliged to explain it.

I can clearly see that Apolyton is far from being anything like an enlightened society. In fact, it looks increasingly like Barbarianism, the more often I open it. Or perhaps a Shivacracy.

Since there are co-owners, I'd say oligarchy.
                              Seriously. Kung freaking fu.
