I’m not sure whether we’re allowed to start threads here since I only see DanQ threads. If we are not just delete this.

Before bashing a certain part of Episod8, I would like to start by complimenting the polycast crew on a rather interesting podcast, its great to listen while posting and most of the stuff you guy’s think is funny, actually is (funny)! I like to listen to it before I go to sleep (I’m a bit of an insomniac) or any other time I can’t spend with civ or on-line or doing interesting things. You guy’s have a pretty good show dynamic and when the entire cast is present you have a nice character contrast working for you, which I think adds flavor to the show. I think it’s a nice part of Apolyton, if only anyone listened to it.

I don’t want to npick or go Krazy Horse on you, but fission reducing the chance of nuclear meltdown? Didn’t you guy’s take any science classes? Ever? I mean have you looked at the Civ4 tech tree? A fission reactor is a nuclear reactor. That’s what happens in a normal power plant,a controlled chain reaction, fission, a uranium or plutonium atom collapses and sprays out little particles which destabilize and split other atoms and the process goes on and produces quite a bit of energy. If you don’t understand fission you can’t have nuclear energy now can you?

(note: fusion is harder to do)

Now I thought maybe I’ve misheard that word, but you keep clearly talking about fisson as a tech that could eliminate meltdown and make nuclear power plants a bit more useful in the late game. I said to myself, maybe they’ve just got confused when talking about things they didn’t know much about.

But then Dan goes and spoils it all,by saying something stupid like: “Fission (he means fusion) eliminating meltdown. Some people might say that’s a bit unrealistic, maybe if it could reduce the chanche of nuclear meltdown. That would be more acceptable."

How in the world could a fussion reactor meltdown? There is just enough fuel for about one minute in the reactor at any time (unlike fission where there’s about a year’s worth). And the fuel ain’t touching the frikkin walls!!! How could the walls melt down!!!

And the idea is just plain stupid since, the nuclear power plants of today are a completely different technology than that of a fusion plant! It’s like hydro plants getting a bonus when you’d invent combustion or when you would have oil!

And to top it all off, you didn’t even credit the idea to Civ2!

You need guy's need to do some reading

    Nuclear Fission

    Nuclear Fusion

    Nuclear power

    Fusion power

I've calmed down by now, but people who are eligible to vote, should know these things or we should just drop this whole farce of democracy. If people can’t understand energy related issues (which are very important, since many a war have been started as a result of them) they sure as hell won’t understand the causes of poverty or foreign policy or… well anything of importance in the big picture.

In the end don’t take me too seriously, I’m just a silly egghead who doesn’t like, uhhh (does not want to get banned),... Well people who are not as well educated as I am (yeah that's right).

Nice show, just make sure you know what you are talking about.

No, no, please feel free to start new threads - that means someone other than Dan gets to talk! And it's great to hear you're enjoying the show, and that we might actually be funny

And you are correct on the difference; I'm going to blame lack of caffeine for me not saying something. I can remember thinking something was wrong about that (fission vs fusion), but for some reason, I thought _I_ was the one who was confused instead of Dan ...
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

By all means! This forum seems to be by and large like the one for Age of Nations and ApolyCon '06 where I start most if not all threads within, but that is how it has worked out practically speaking it seems. On behalf of the PolyCast team we welcome more discussion in this forum... particularly in threads that I don't start.

      I don’t want to npick... [..]

Let me clarify my comment: first, yes I meant fusion (not fission)... a sloppy bit on my part. Second, I meant fusion eliminating the likelihood of a nuclear plant having a meltdown -- not that a fusion plant itself could have a meltdown and thus needing that threat to at least be minimized.

I recognize that even with this clarification now, my point is still enough to make those more in the know like you to go , but at least not so egregiously. Nevertheless I appreciate the clarifications (and likely my fellow co-hosts do too seeing as how they didn't correct me ).

In the end don’t take me too seriously, I’m just a silly egghead who doesn’t like, uhhh (does not want to get banned),... Well people who are not as well educated as I am (yeah that's right).
I will never hesitate to admit not being as knowledgeable in the field of science -- save perhaps computing in a number but not all respects -- as I probably should be. This includes energy-related issues. Of all the 'core' subjects routinely taught in schools, science was the one I found the most difficult... I guess this still shows.

Still, I would have done myself a world of good had I a) not made a slip of the tongue re: fission instead of fusion and b) clarified my point at the time as I have done above.

You constructed your criticism with effective argument, reference and civility... a combination which can be hard to find.

I would like to start by complimenting the polycast crew on a rather interesting podcast, its great to listen while posting and most of the stuff you guy’s think is funny, actually is (funny)!

Have you listened to Episode 06 as well per chance?

or any other time I can’t spend with civ or on-line or doing interesting things. once again. Thank you for the kind words -- they are most appreciated.

I must say that since you listen to the show, you shouldn't be too hard on yourself: you're a somebody.

Nice show, just make shure you know what you are talking about.
As long as you make certain you know how to spell...

In all seriousness again _BuRjaCi_, thank you again for your feedback: you offered us relevant good points on the show, a bad point and how to improve... all in a constructive fashion as I noted earlier.

I'm not going to name any names, but a few others in particular could learn from your example here.

          Re: Re: Silly people

That… was a slightly more positive response that I expected. Looking at the post I had thought all the negative smiley’s in the middle were too much. I just wanted to clear some things up, I’m glad you didn’t take offense, since it wasn’t my intention. Odd, people on *ahem* certain forums aren’t too open for constructive criticism. I’m slightly defensive when it comes to stuff like this, since the public education system covers such felids rather poorly. Like I said polycast is a good show and you guys are doing a good job.

As a low blood-pressure patient, I can definitely relate to lack of caffeine.

Now Makahlua, when has Dan not been confused?

It was clear to me that your intention was not to offend... though if you had, you failed poorly.

There was a time in my life -- heck, as early as a few years ago I would say -- that I probably would have reacted poorly to even constructive criticism of the show [insert "duh!" reactions from those in the know ]. Thankfully, I've (generally) learned to recognize the difference been criticisms constructive and not... and how to address (or not) each type.
