  • Full PM Box

Here's an idea of such unparalleled obviousness, I can't think why it's not already been done.

Instead of having users wait until someone wants to send them a Private Message and then telling them by e-mail that they need to delete some PM's to make space, how about when they send or receive that final PM that fills up their inbox an e-mail is sent to them telling them what they should do?

Alternatively, a warning on the website, perhaps telling us when our inbox is reaching full status? It can't be that hard... assuming you have any time

(It just seems like a stupid way of doing it, like with my mobile phone, when its text message memory is full, it lets you write a message, select someone to send it to, and only THEN does it inform you that you have no memory space, and you can't even save it as a draft. Riciculoso)

When you hold your mouse over the PM indicator, it shows how close to being full it is .

See, that's the kind of useless feature that sounds good but actually doesn't help the vast majority at all (I can't even find a PM indicator with a hoverbox)- why not have something simple and effective in its place?

Yeah, but plenty of other sites have that as well. It comes by default with the newer versions of vBulletin. Though there's no chance that we will upgrade to that here, since we have so many custom updates built on top of the old version.

They will have to at some point though I guess.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

                  Sounds perfectly sensible to me.

I've figured out how to delete the unread messages.

But I've never been able to figure out how to delete the previously read messages. Nor can I even find them.

You probably need to change the setting so it shows all messages since the start rather than all messages in the last 10 days.

In a semi-related follow-up to this thread, I have increased the maximum number of PMs per registered forum user from 150 to 200.

Fair point, but anything beyond this is a bit more involved and other priorities taking precedence and limited staff numbers/availability combined mean it will be some more time coming.

Any chance of increasing the Max for the paid members from 300 to 400 (or more ) at the same time? (especially for those members who paid specifically because 150 wasn't enough and now find that 300 isn't enough? ).
