  • Is DanQ the only one left posting in the ApolyCon forum?

Obviously noone but Dan posts in that section anymore.

His posts should really be news items and that subforum closed down. If there was a game related forum with such low traffic it would have been closed long time ago.

Let's face it, noone gives a damn about that Poly"Con" anymore. It was a failure. Announced for months and only 15 attendees. We've had meetings in London with only 2 or 3 weeks announcement that attracted 14 people from up to 9 nationalities at a time.

You'd think beer was more attractive than Sid, which cannot be true. It must have been the messed up planning, and don't you conveniently blame JohnT for everything. This isn't his site after all.

The ApolyCon was a failure and such is the dedicated sub forum. Admins, please do yourselves and all of us a favour and close it down. In dignity.

Well I'm sure some people are downloading the videos, though admittedly a 15 turn out isn't that great, and only slightly more than we had at an impromptu polymeet when Jam and Duke came to stay at my flat.

Being a bit harsh there I see.
I remember everyone making fun of the first super bowl and that seemed to turn out ok.

A lot of people put in some hard work and don't need to listen to you whining.

        1) ApolyCon was held, successfully ran through all items on its schedule and has been well spoken of by guests and registrants alike. Expectations in terms of the number of attendees was perhaps too high for a first-time event such as this, but that's all. It was a more extensive undertaking and structured differently than other PolyMeets, so that comparison is not entirely telling.

        2) The reasons for JohnT's departure as still unknown, as are his whereabouts or circumstance. His leaving during the middle of finalizing event plans was sudden, without warning and ultimately created an extra burden on other Committee members to see this through. We do not blame him "for everything": there is very little if anything to lay blame for besides. We're all better off to learn from what went well and what didn't to better determine what and what not to do the next time around.

Perhaps Ecthy is regretting he was not able to attend for whatever reason.

In short, ApolyCon was not a failure but rather a beginning to what the future could hold in terms of future events of this type. The planning hit some rocky roads due to JohnT's unexpected departure, to be sure, but they were by and large worked through. What future ApolyCon gatherings would need is even greater participation from planning to attendance.

            Fair point.

Greater participation numbers are one of the best ways to ensure a reduction in the attendance fee. In fact, the fee was based on cost "covering" with almost double the number of attendees that the event ultimately had.

Speaking of this fee, almost half of it was towards the would-have-been banquet; this was demonstrated publicly and practically through the option of being able to attend the banquet alone for $75US. The plan was changed given lower-than-expected attendance numbers and feedback, but in lieu that part of the monies was used to purchase a number of additional attendee meals minus alcohol in a less formal atmosophere (i.e. Friday reception, Saturday lunch).

Schedule the next one on Rah's birthday so he doesn't have to pay to attend (he and Ming could get friends to buy tickets for them as presents)

The original intent was to have it scheduled the third and not the second weekend in July (as per popular vote in great part), but had to be the second due to an Honoured Guest's and the hotel's availability.

And don't be so damned obscure and pompous and non-helpful when people like me ask for the phone number of the hotel so that they can register.

I directed you to the hotel's website by providing you its address (which had already been provided on the convention website too); yes, I can see now how that was obscure, pompous and non-helpful of me.

Perhaps at the next conference you could try to quibble with me in person...

                              Conversation over.
