  • Help! I Cannot View Topics in the Forums!

    Markos, Dan:

Perhaps I'm the only one affected by this — I sure as hell hope not — but I started having issues viewing the forums and individual topic posts within them late Friday night/early Saturday morning.

I'm using the Web browser Safari, but haven't had any issues up until now. I looked in the browser's activity window for 'Poly after the forums failed to display properly, and this is what I found: Seven URL lines, all of which loaded properly, and a "table" line that failed to load properly. I removed the actual URLs from this post, because they made it display really weird.

Anyway, the "table" line noted an error indicating it couldn't load it (I just checked the activity window again after successfully accessing the Community forum and making this topic post ... naturally, there's no error message this time for the "table" line of code). The issue has been hit-and-miss (after all, I was able to finally access the Community forum and post this topic), and I'm able to access the main Web site. It just seems to be the forums part that is affected by this issue.

Heh. It's probably nothing major, but when one gets so used to the smooth functioning that 'Poly has 99 percent of the time, it takes one by surprise when the 1 percent rears its head.

OK, enough from me. Enlightenment would be appreciated, though.

Nothing else seems to have been reported so try a different browser?

      Hi Gatekeeper.

To diagnose the problem properly, Markos and I will need to know the "table" line which failed to load properly. Email it and the seven lines of code before it you mentioned to both of us.

In addition and in the interim, have you tried another browser -- as DrSpike has noted -- for comparison purposes?

I don't know if you are the only one, but you are certainly in the minority.

I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

            DanQ:

I've sent you the e-mail and shall now attempt to send the same message to Markos. Regarding another browser, I haven't done that just yet. Not many browsers are optimized yet for working on Intel iMacs, but I'll look around.

P.S. Oh, and Kuciwalker? Mind your own damn business.

Emailed received -- we will continue this support request by email for now and will report back here when a resolution or "stump" is reached.

Kuciwalker: not helpful. Gatekeeper: I recommend ignoring comments like that.

What, that isn't a thoroughly informative response? I am having issues too, though.

                          DanQ:

                          Thanks for the effort!

BTW, the screenshot Verto displayed is exactly the same problem I've experienced on-and-off since late Friday night/early Saturday morning. I'm no programmer, but I'm pretty sure it's an ad causing problems because when I reload a page in quick succession, it generally displays properly after the second or third attempt.

Regarding Kuci's comments, heh, well, I suppose it'd be easier to ignore than to respond to the bait. But when you think about it, the Apple Tiger 10.4.7 OS is a real OS in the sense that it's simply a "skin" over a Unix "core." So take that, Kuci!

                            DanQ, Markos:

Here's a shot of the screen in question. I'm starting to get it more and more frequently, but quick screen reloads seem to get rid of it.

Silly me. I have no idea how to display the screen shot in the actual post, like Verto did. I ended up using some of the space allotted to me in the upload service, which is where the "?" will take people to who click on it. It's the same thing Verto encountered and has posted about.
