Reflections...
It has been an interesting (almost) six years now. It's sort of frightening when
I look back on all that time and remember what this place and myself were like
when I first joined and what it and I am like now.
It's strange how this message board has, in some small way, become a community
that's something like family.
Even though I've never had the opportunity to meet anyone on these boards- I've
nevertheless had the pleasure and priviledge of communing with so many of you.
For once the Deity of Lists (myself), am going to forgoe listing all the things
I enjoy about this site- there's simply too many- and I would inevitably leave
something off, and I'm also not going to provide a list of names and give
accolades to others because, simply, there are too many of you.
Nor am I going to list all my accomplishments. While I am proud of them- I am
trying to keep this statement short (so that people will actually read it).
But trust me, I have enjoyed my time here- and also my diversions onto its
sister sites to which so many of you also wander: the Civilization Gaming
Network, the FreeFireZone, Counterglow, ACOL, and even the 60 or so posts I made
on hated competitor CivFanatics
It's fun here. I enjoy posting and admiring the Brits... and AH's wit- the other Aussies' wit is questionable.
Indeed, I
just really enjoy the community.
Sometimes I smile and wonder how, over the past eight years the posters have
lived and changed. And I also wonder why some people are still here- even though
it's been 10 years since the release of Civilization II!
I never will have a full answer to that question, but I can guess based on my
own experience- they all found something wonderful here on Dan and Markos' site.
Long Live Apolyton- soon to celebrate it's 8th year on the Internet!

PS: Hopefully this won't result in a 10% PCR... which is what my post upon achieving Emperor status resulted in.
