  • On the meaning of the word Apolyton

When I looked online, a good number of the English-Greek dictionaries had given the word "Telikos" (From what I have latinized; I'm not an expert in the translation of the alphabets after all) to be ultimate, rather than "Apolyton." Are they merely synonyms, or do they have slightly different implications in their meaning?

Jasonian22: Bill, you are STILL young and stupid."

I'm pretty sure I picked December 19th for this contest. I win! Yay!

I'll take Feb 25 for the next round.

      Haven't been here for ages....

you should really show me those dictionaries.
"telikos" (from "telos" = "end") means final (as in "final round"), not ultimate...

And it would still have sounded better than the Canadian word for "Greek".

Ultimate does mean final, so it would appear that he's looking at the wrong definition of ultimate.

Meh, I was looking at this - http://www.translatum.gr/

Yeah, it was under "ultimate outcome" - I guess it was a synonym.

                          Entire thing was:

(το) άκρο(ν) άωτον (το) αποκορύφωμα, (η) τελευταία λέξη: the ultimate in modern design η τελευταία λέξη στο σύγχρονο σχεδιασμό # ΦΡ. ultimate cause γενεσιουργό αίτιο # ultimate constituent (στη γλωσσολογία ελάχιστο συστατικό
So, uh, which one is Apolyton? "απόλυτη"?
