  • MSN & GAMESPY ID Fields Added

Two fields have been added in all user profiles: MSN and Gamespy ID

Beyond the long need MSN field, the Gamespy field will allow for easier tracking of players on Civ4 lobby. In fact the Gamespy ID field will be a requirement of our upcoming Civ4 MP civgroup.

Both fields are shown in user posts, private messages and general and civgroup member lists

    Looking forward to your feedback

    Nice work there Mark.
They do seems to skew the location table for some.
    Especially when both are used.

    FireFox 1.5 beta

EDIT: happens when too many are used.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

Are they supposed to be clickable or just look pretty?

Also, what is the privacy like with this.

Namely, will the lame spam-bots be able to harvest our emails, or are they only visible to users logged in?

They are supposed to be moused over and a hovering yellow box appears with the info in it

They're tags - i doubt they would be harvestable from that, would they be? Anyway you can hide them with the same email-hiding techniques ("snoopy369 ta yahoo tod com" etc.) i'm sure without any problem ... they're not clickable or anything

Now Markos, when is the Google talk link going to come

UGH. Why do you hate us, Mark?

You made our MSN IDs = our email address publically available.

And yes, they're harvestable...the bots just search the webpages for a "*@*.*" string pattern.

I strongly recommend you remove the MSN-spam-beacon for now until you can figure out to only display it to members who are logged in.

Perhaps even a better method would be to make the MSN icon a link to a popup window or some AJAX-style overlay that fetches the email from the database, but only when clicked...

As it is right now it's a spam magnet.

Also, IIRC, Firefox and other Gecko-based browsers don't display ALT-text mouseovers for images...at least they don't work with my Firefox 1.5beta.
