  • RSS Feed?

Aye, I know this has little to do with the GAME but is kinda cool for the cIV community, would not be nice to have RSS feeds with the latest news?

    What you say?

RSS Feed: dinamicaly generated HXML code that allows you to have 'live bookmarks' showing, for example, the header of every news, but in your bookmark. FireFox has native support for it.
    Owww, I'm so cute! ^_^

Moved to the forum where it belongs.

I think that could be an interesting idea, actually Though for a wider coverage than Civ4, it could cover al the site's news (does RSS support categories?) We have plenty of news to support such a feature, and the amount will likely only increase as Civ4 gets closer.

I'm not sure what it would involve though, might require a complete overhaul of the news system, and that's not something I see happening anytime soon...

If the news is stored in a database like I suspect, it would be trivial to write RSS feeds using the data.

There are RSS modules for blogs, i dont think is to harsh to implement or even code a custom module, is just to fetch the headers and put them in a HXML file, does not have to be fancy.

PS: In fact, look the Header bar top right of your screen, you can select a header and display it in a new window or the same. The RSS might fetch the data where those headers are stored. YAY! YAY!

The news is stored in two databases. One for civgroup news and one for normal news. I'm sure that rss feed generation could be done in exact same way as the dropdown menu and forum sidebar. Just someone that has to have the time to code the new format.
The newsbuilding and merging of sorted newsitems from the two databases already exist.

It's a built-in feature to vBulletin 3 - is it terribly expensive to upgrade?

if you count in the paying jobs i'll have to drop to do it

it's cheapier to do anything than upgrade (wrong word actually, we have many of the vb3 features) to vb3
