I haven't seen banner ads for a year or two, ever since they introduced the popups (and, incidentally, removed banner ads from the default style).

This is what I get for not reading all posts in this thread as closely as I should have...

      Thanks for the heads-up.

Just get PLUS Ted. The time you've wasted on this thread would pay for a month!

Interestingly, has anyone noticed that Firefox is now getting pop under ads from many sites?

Apparently the adscum have worked out a way to bypass pop up blockers. That is so rude.

A number of sites I surf have been affected (and to their credit some of them are apologizing to users).

I'd recommend Polyplus too. The prime benefits are the loading speed and the extended PM Box.

No more do I get emails telling me that I failed to receive an angry message from Ming because my PM Box is full.

Now I just don't receive angry messages from Ming, which leads me to believe that I have been given evil super powers over Apolyton!

It is rude. It's like having musical advertisements in your newspaper.

The difference with pop ups is that many sites don't offer you the option of having more inline ads instead of a pop up. IIRC Apolyton does that with the different forum styles, which is a good thing for people who don't want to stop the site from making money, but loathe pop ups.

edit: The Firefox pop-under story is on Slashdot today. I'd noticed it since midweek. Apparently the Tabbrowser extension allows this, so I disabled it - nae more popunders.

                  Ted Striker,

maybe I don't arse myself to instruct you, when you appear to be unco-operative, always bashing *nix OS'es. If you would use Adblock, you would have noticed the small Adblock tab on the Flash animation. That tab will allow you to add it to your filter rules.

                  Agathon,

mainly MediaTraffic pop-ups utilising that leak. At least I haven't had others and I do browse a fair share of different sites every day. I have that extension, but won't get rid off it because some occasional pop-ups. They most likely get it updated soon anyway.

Oh, and for the viral infections you mentioned. Indeed, I do recommend Linux. Just grab a live distro like Knoppix, run it off a CD/DVD and you won't get any viruses, trojans, worms and other riff raff on your precious hard drive(s). Or if it has to be Windows, make a WinPE based boot CD. Gets quite close to the real "Windows experience", except that it's not run from the hard drive.

                        Nice try.

                        Seriously:
Markos, have you increased the rate of pop-ups lately 'cause I'm getting an awfull lot of them.
Just coming here I got 3, then 2 minutes later, going to a different page I got another 2.
It's not a one of either I regret to say.

Left Poly, came back and another two popped-up.

I haven't seen this ad all day.

Either other sites complained about it, or they got in trouble for using Brad Pitt's image.
