Considering that Civ IV is going to come out eithet December of this year or July of next, isn't it about time that Apolyton had a front-page section dedicated to it so that screenshots, THE LIST, interviews and speculation could all be mentioned?

As MarkG told me some time ago, you should post these kind of things in the Staff Room so they can be ignored more easily
I was thinking about that myself, but the problem is that aside from The List (and possibly my 'Just the facts' thread), we don't have any Civ4 materials yet. Not much of a point in creating a section if you don't have anything to put in it...
Around the time when the first screenshots will be released (whenever that may be) is probably a good time to open a section (though it wouldn't hurt to start preparing for it in advance... but I don't need to tell Markos and Dan how to run their site )
BTW, July '06? WTF? Official date is end of this year. You can bet your arse they're not gonna miss the holiday season...

Supreme Ruler looks very good and should be out around June. BattleGoats spend 4 years on this game .
Next would be Ctp2 the upcoming new patch. I know its not a new game but the work being done on the code should give the CtP fans the best Civ game till Civ4 comes out. But I could be wrong, the CtP2 modders are working on new features that might give Civ4 fans something to think about.

Either way Apolyton really needs to attack civ4, I heard from a lot of people CFC totally crushed 'Poly on civ3 coverage.Call to Power 2: Apolyton Edition - download the latest version (12th June 2011)
CtP2 AE Wiki & Modding Reference
One way to compile the CtP2 Source Code.

I'm looking forward to the release of The Courts of Candle'Bre .
Looks like Vel and team are getting closer and closer.
As far as CFC and CivIV...I'll take 'Poly's quality over their quantity any day."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Yes, Poly needs to be The Place for Civ4. We may not be the place that the younger gamers come to, unlike Civfan which abounds with kids, but we should be the place for mods and information.
Poly has always been the place where I can get a straight answer about Civ2. I think our technical expertise surpasses any other gaming site. We should make a point of that and offer some decent infrastructure to make well of that niche.
We may not be about flash and glamour, but by God we can be about getting the answers.
There are a bunch of ways we can cover the niche for modding Civ4. A compendium of modding knowledge could be a start.
I think that right now we should take the fact that Civ 4 will be moddable in Python and XML coding languages to heart. We should develop a "How To" in both languages so that we have a firm base for all Civ4 modders to fall back on.
Planning for the future is a smart thing to do. It's just wonderful to have a forum devoted to the game, but without support for the details of Civ4 we will not gain the edge and therefore the TRAFFIC over other civ sites.
We need to plan and we need to do it now.

Locutus, maybe I misunderstood- but in your 'what to expect in Civ IV thread' I thought there were some screenshots?
And it can't hurt to plan ahead a little.
As for the release date- considering that the intense marketing for games usually starts about 12-9 months before the release, I can probably honestly say that they are likely to miss their december release date... especially if, as you say, there aren't even any screenshots yet.-->Visit CGN!

As far as marketing goes, I think the magazine features of late December marked the start of the campaign, but the real fireworks can probably only be expected at E3 (and possibly in the period leading up to it; i.e. late March at the earliest). That would be in line with past behaviour.

Better hurry.
