Ahhhh, but I haven't been restricted. I'm just looking out for my peeps who HAD been restricted and for the Demo Games in general. I'll do all I can to keep them running smoothly, and unexpectedly having Ministers and Consuls being banned, even for 24 hours, could be quite frustrating.Originally posted by Ming
I understand... most people aren't happy when they get restricted for rules violations. And in your case, you probably feel it was unfair...
So in the future, if you have any doubt... send a PM with an explaination
And thank you for being civil about it... many people aren't when they get restricted
I know this site is a Despotism, but it is mostly a benevolent Despotism. And I'm hoping this sort of benevloence can be digested by the gOdZ and considered.

Apolyton isn't in Despotism. It's a Monarchy because they get the extra trade arrow when the site is celebrating.(\__/) Save a bunny, eat more Smurf!

Because you'll also see less and less of those posting on-topic stories for the already somewhat dull public demogame forums. Heck, the PTWDG (the one I participate in) would be utterly stale if it weren't for threads like the one UnO posted which got him banned.Originally posted by Ming
Sus... Nahhhh...
At first, the list was REALLY REALLY long... And while many people are still being caught, it's getting less and less everytime they do a sweep. It does seem to be effective. We usually don't see any repeat offenders
From the rules:
"Only files related to the games we cover are accepted. NO ILLEGAL FILES will be tolerated. All uploads are logged!"
So, if someone makes a Star Wars mod in Civ and posts a Star Wars pic, that's not accepted? You also cover the now-defunct game Dinosaurs. If I uploaded a pic of a Brontosaurus, would that not be accepted either?

It was the upload
It is YOUR responsibility to contact the owners to explain your uploads if you think there might be some confusion. The owners don't have the time or inclination to follow every thread posted. They base it on what is obvious... The owners have better things to do and their time is better spent doing more important things for this site. It takes a person a minute or two to send a single PM to the owners... no real effort required. But no, you seem to be demanding that the owners do it to tons of rules breakers just because somebody is too lazy to send a single PM. The majority of upload violations have absolutely nothing to do with a demogames. Yes, sometimes a few do... but the majority don't. But you seem to want the owners to waste the time, when the solution is far easier...From the rules:

Just send a short PM if you think there is going to be a problem. Is that too much to ask of people who are enjoying this site because of all the hard work the owners do for us?Keep on Civin'

This seems a battle of whom must sent a PM, and I have a fair idea who's gonna have it's way in the end.

There is no battle
This is a private site, and the owners make the rules. They can do as they wish. And if people don't like it, they can always find another site
It's a shame that some people think the owners should do all the work, when all it would take is a minute on their own part. It comes down to responsibility, and it's sad that some people find it easier to whine and complain about unfairness, instead of dealing with reality
Keep on Civin'

It would be easy for anyone with knowledge of PHP to implement this...Originally posted by Snowflake
I have a suggestion. Would it be possible if somebody could write a script associated with the illegal banning action so that whenever somebody was banned a simple standard message was sent to that person, with something like "You have been banned for 24 hours due to violation of the upload feature", or something like that. This way at least people will know why and be more receptible. It will not cause any more trouble to MarkG and DanQ (except for the adding of the script of course), but it will ensure that this kind of complain will not rise again.

This thread is getting abit old, but as I just saw it, just saying my few cents.
Nobody has said you can only upload to ACS. If you upload something, you should understand that you take all the possible responsebilities, as you agree with the ToS/AUP for the service. If you want to get files hosted, you can always look elsewhere. There's free hosting solutions and very cheap paid hosting solutions, starting around a buck per month. If you can't pay or don't want to lift a finger to find something free, then quite the crap and obey."Kids, don't listen to uncle Solver unless you want your parents to spank you." - Solver

Well, it's not "open-source" but rather "open-code" (or something like that, forget the term) which means people can mod the PHP as they wish. So yes, it is a possibility.Originally posted by Ari Rahikkala
