  • Searching the archives

Myself and HongHu requested the ability to search archives, perhaps as a PLUS benefit.

However, Theben has indicated he can search the archives, so I'd like to canvas some opinions on whether it is possible, and if so why it isn't for myself and HongHu.

I'm with you. No can do. I hope this is not a PLUS "feature."

However, it is not at clear that Tehben can search, as opposed to link to the archives.

Tehben may be confused, I believe personally.

He stated clearly he could search the archives. I too think he is confused though, and was probably skimsying the posts.

The only one that it seems I can't seach is Off-Topic for some reason, but I can search the others.

Okay, I need to clarify. I usually only inhabit the OG, OTF, and A/C and didn't really look to closely at the others. It appears I can search the archived A/C and OG, and some others, but not all of them.

This is what I got searching "ship" under the 'archive' tag:

Oh, well then, you only meant to say that you got a response to a search query. And quite a nice response it was.

So then, Mark, when can we expect a working archive search function??

Actually he is right........it does work for A/C archive, and presumably those others too. OT archives are not searchable it seems.

Well you may note that I didn't get ANY responses from the civII or III forums, and only 1 from the CtP forums. For 'ship' I would expect hundreds (I got 52 replies total).

it seems that some of the posts in the archive have not been moved to the archived posts table.

when you're searching the archive you'll get results from a few thousands of posts rather than the 2+ million....

if we enable archive searching (it's not a "switch", some coding required) it will probably be a plus benefit to avoid new load issues....

Sounds good. Hopefully it will figure quite prominently on the to do list.

Probably just about enough to purchase the 4th "What Car?" magazine.
