If you can't turn it off, how do you don know it's just not something else on the machine causing the problem

But seriously, most pop up blockers can be turned on and off easily, it's usually as easy as clicking on an icon... and in some cases, holding down the contol key will disable it during a specific action.

Most popup blockers prevent popups from loading - not sites. Most popups that are blocked originate from sites that computers can get to in the first place.

It's not just pop up blockers.

I tried to connect from work, and even from outside the firewall just a direct connection to the ISP, I see nothing.

But I can connect from home fine, which is odd because I use the same ISP here as we have at work.

It may be a DNS problem. Can the work computers resolve the apolyton.net address into an IP address?

This site has obviously been sent to Mingapulco by the cafe.

Yes they can resolve the IP.

It's probably the server being over loaded.

I have a similar problem. I can access ‘Poly at work fine. However I had a new connection (broadband finally ) installed at home, and ‘Poly has stopped working. My first thought was the new firewall or connection, however it loads all other sites, and doing a tracert, it gets 16 steps and then times out. So the package is getting out of our LAN, out of VispaNet (our ISP) and over the Atlantic, before it stops. I’ve tried connect to ‘Poly’s frontpage, OTF and directly via IP address.

I asked Micha to do a tracert, which he did, and it also got 16 steps and then timed out. However he can access ‘Poly.

I also tried connecting to #apolyton IRC, which wouldn’t connect either.

My only thought is if it is a link that’s gone down, but most links down would either affect a lot of people, or be able to circumnavigate. Any ideas of what to do to fix it would be welcome

For though he was master of the world, he was not quite sure what to do next
But he would think of something

Make sure you try with and without the www. prefix. Also, if you are certain it's nothing to do with your settings then you could ask your ISP.

                    Where does the traceroute stop?

I've tried with www, without, and with the IP address. I'll ask the ISP, but IIRC, the traceroute stops after it's out of VispaNet. I can't remember exactly (will get someone to post it tonight, once I've checked again.

Poly doesn't respond to ping. That's the timeout.

Ahhh. Then it not showing up? If the ping get's to 'Poly before not responding, then why doesn't it load?

I've never heard of this problem and if I experienced same I would probably pull my hair (a totally useless gesture).

If this is a work computer, perhaps certain folk have abused the company time by overly accessing these boards and the company has blocked access to 'Poly. The problem is at your end, I bet.
