  • Need New Section For Games

I'm getting tired of wading through all the lame forum based games that have multiplied in the 'other games' section.

Could a new section be provided please? Or better yet, could they be removed? Such activities really deserve a forum of their own.

Anyway, I thought club threads were not allowed.

Those are not club threads, anybody can join. Like demogames.

I think splitting other games and forum games into their own forums is a good idea.

        Adding a 'forum games' section
        Removing forum games
This space is empty... or is it?

The other games forum was pretty dead before the "forum" games started to get going. And while you may consider them "lame"... at least people participate and have fun. One might argue that the whole forum was "lame" BEFORE they started since there was so little activity.

I don't see any reason why another forum should be created just so it can lay there with just a few active threads...

The forum games have been a big plus for that forum... why fix what isn't broken.

the case has been made that the forum games have brought more visibility to other games. Maybe.

Wonder if any of our bored listmakers could go see whats happened to the number of non-forum games threads and posts since forum games became prevalent.

Also, even if forum games are good, and keeping them in OG is better than seperating, them, there can bee too much of a good thing. Diminishing returns, you know? One forum game good. The second ok. The seventh??? and threads that arent Forum games, but are ABOUT interpersonal issues on the forum games (see the thread "please read and respond" in OG)??

            Some restraint would be appreciated.

I frequented the Other Games section before the dawn of the forum games and most threads didn't even get read, or if they did they were only read sparodically. Replies were few and far between. Now the forum actually has traffic, and threads get great visbility.

With the *few* forum game threads only taking up a limited number of lines on the front page, the threads about games enjoy a large amount of time actually on the first page of OG and rarely if ever get bumped off before they reach the magic "2 days since last reply" mark.

As at this post, there are a total of 4 threads that have been forced to the 2nd page that have been active within the last 2 days. Even then, two of them are forum games, meaning only 2 threads about other games don't recieve first-page visibility.

On the first page are a total of 10 threads related to forum games. If you can't manage to "wade" through that many threads that do not interest you to get to the 15 on the frontpage that do, heaven help you if you visit the OT.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

well my biggest complaint so far is the one thread that WASNT labeled as an obvious forum game, and which I had to open first. Granted that took less time than commenting on it - i wont mind as long as it doesnt become a TREND.

Ditto, theres "only" seven active forum games now I think. But the number has been increasing steadily. How many is too many? 8? 10?

and of the disappointment when you see a thread titled something like "galactic overlords" and you think another space 4X Tbs, only to find another forum game

Honestly, I made the same mistake as you

but at least it was an interesting read!

Rah, the other games forum moderator, keeps a close eye on new forum games. If it starts getting out of hand, I'm sure the "reasonable one" will act in the best interest of the forum.

Wow, a 46-minute DP, that must be a record

I don't think there can be "too many forum games". There have been quite a number of experimental games that have failed due to feasibility issues, insufficient player interest et cetera. The ones that survive are the ones people enjoy participating in. It's a pretty natural system.

In fact us making the call was so important, Ming had to say it twice .

Seriously, I frequented the Other Games forum before the forum games and I have to concur with those that said it was dead. There were like 1 or 2 threads which had decent activity (by that I mean like 2 posts a day), but it was mostly dead.

I wouldn't say it was 'dead' before the forum-games started, but sure there's been a lot more activity lately because of it... I also visited other games before the forum-games time...

I'm impressed as well... especially since I had been at lunch away from my office for at least 20 minutes prior to the second posting.
