The page you sent me to is simply a list of what appears to be some not-particularly-current threads under the topic CIV3 GENERAL, led by any player who wanted to start a new thread. MarkG's opening post for THIS thread (titled "News & Support II") said:

Is it just because I'm not 'PolyPlus that you say I'm in the wrong place? My flawed logic led me to think that posting a problem on a thread hosted by someone from ADMIN - with a heading including the magic word "support" - just might get me some help for a change.

Oh, very well. I just hope that somewhere on this grillion-page site I can find someone with some authority who will listen.
Even if you were POLYplus you are asking for technical support for Civ3, and Mark is the admin of this Civ3 forum. He has nothing to do with the game, besides playing it, and running this site. If you have an issue you have to raise it with Firaxis, not Mark.

Alternatively post about your experiences in the Civ3 forum and maybe some Civ3 players will be able to help you.

Ok, maybe I should have said in a different way, but don't know how to say this in short:
People who just arrives to a new board usually don't call one by the name it's written in ones sig (not when it says "previously known as" at least)

true... but if it's a DL, why would (s)he ask a basic question in the wrong forum?

btw, the other thing in your sig, about the lost machine. i heard a similar story once of an old unix machine which was working reliable for years but they never knew where it was until they started following the coax-cable... and found out the box had been walled in

Easy. Someone else in these many threads about improvements for the upcoming Civ4 used it. I assumed it was shorthand for "Adagio."

Again, thanks. The way the Civ empire has changed hands since the release of Civ1, I hadn't yet figured out that Apolyton isn't at all related to - or successor to - Firaxis and/or Infogrames.

I guess my only remaining confusion is why MarkG, as the only poster with the Admin title, didn't reply himself. - No matter, it's moot. Assuming he's still around, I'm sure he appreciates you patrolling the territory for him.

Addressing someone by name is usually considered a courtesy, a gesture of respect or friendship. Who knew a games forum would have such stringent hierarchical protocol?

So, mighty Emperor (and Inmate???), should I grovel now to atone for my egregious breach of decorum?

                    Puhleeeeeeze forgive this insignificant nematode!

Ah, but how can you be sure I’m not someone you already know in a clever disguise? Hmmmmmm …….

MarkG doesn't make a living running the site; he's not around to answer questions all the time. So if the answer is known to more than just him, often other posters will beat him to it.
