  • NFL Coaching Carousel 2025

Well, the regular season is over and the firings have begun. Plus existing openings like the Jets, New Orleans, and Chicago.

New England - fired HC Jerod Mayo
Jacksonville - fired HC Doug Pedersen
Cincinnati - fired DC Lou Anarumo

So that's 5 head coach vacancies as of Monday morning.

-Apparently, the NY Giants are keeping HC Brian Daboll because, um, continuity?
-In Dallas, there will be no firing, but there could still be major changes, as HC Mike McCarthy's contract is expiring.
-Miami, Tennessee, Indianapolis have stated they are keeping their coaches.

Should be another couple openings announced soon...

Vrabel is a great hire, and the scuttlebutt is that maybe McDaniels will join him?

I think a lot of us are hoping for the Lions OC, Ben Johnson. I know I am. We're hungry for offense, jealous of Detroit's, and we want Caleb Williams to succeed.

Also, I'm terrified to learn they will interview Mike McCarthy Wednesday. That's a non-starter for me. But hey, they seem to be interviewing everyone. It was interesting to learn that they are open to trading for a coach.

The Pete Carroll thing is kind of intriguing. Scuttlebutt is that he came in with a pretty detailed plan for Caleb's development, even including a succession plan for his retirement-departure.

A lot of blather suddenly about Deion going to the Cowboys.

He's so overrated. "Not his job to tackle."
                  I'd rather have Witten.

If McCarthy couldn't win with all the resources Dallas brings to bear, there is no way he would succeed in Chicago.

I think Jerry Jones wants a team-connected HC. I don't know if Deion has the chops with his two seasons of college coaching, but that hiring would be for culture fit and leadership. Seems goofy, but then again, everyone mocked the hiring of Mike Ditka when it happened. Probably including me. I mean, he was the Dallas special teams coach when Halas hired him. So you never know.

And the Bears actually move quickly and take Ben Johnson as their new HC!! Love this hire and hope it works out. Dennis Allen supposedly as DC.
