True, they did not "carpe the diem" and just seemed to run out of gas. The pitching sucked. The defense REALLY sucked, with Addison Russell being out and Schwarber finally exposed.

But considering they were projected as a "maybe .500" team and took out both the Pirates and Cardinals before the collapse is pretty big progress. Next year they will be favorites and even more the media darlings. It will be fun to see how they handle that.

    Wait til next year!TM

At the beginning of the year, if you had told me would lose in the NLCS, I would have been thrilled.
Yeah, they rolled over and played dead, but still...
It was a good year. Let's hope for a great year next year. They now have a "taste" and they have some experience.
Now, one more good free agent pitcher

I agree that it was a great year and even with the sweep they should be proud of what they have done. I know there is a lot of talk about David Price, but I wonder if he is the answer since he is not that great in post season. But they definitely need at least one more pitcher.

          Cubs had a great year.

I have no problem with them picking up Price. (it's not my money )

I've always had a problem with "in the playoffs". Baseball is a streaky game and the playoffs represent a small part of the season. For Price the playoffs is only around 50 innings vs the around 1500 he has done during the regular season. The difference in his whip is only like 1.2 to 1.12. Not that different considering the size of the sample. And you're usually facing better hitting in the playoffs. Yes, it's great when you got some guy that really steps it up in the playoffs, but I'm not going to totally judge any player on a small sample size. In any season there's going to be a stretch where a player performs under average. That's what makes baseball what it is.

Are we going to say that you wouldn't want Arrieta on your staff because he wasn't great in this last two playoff starts?

Congrats to the Royals. Normally I would be rooting for the NL team. (unless it's the cardinals or the mets) of course.

Yeah, I thought I'd be neutral on this year's World Series, but as soon as the Mets jumped on top in Game 1, my blood was boiling. So even though I'm from the "lose to the champions and claim 2nd-best team" school of thought, I found myself rooting for Kansas City.

The Royals were clearly a team on a mission. Unrelenting, fundamentally sound, battle tested. I really do believe the best team won.

                Plus, fvck New York.

                  I love this guy.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

rip Tommy Hanson I had him on my fantasy teams back before and during his arm troubles

Tommy Hanson, a former Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels pitcher, has died. The Braves called Hanson "a favorite in our clubhouse and with our staff."

Wow. Very weird, bordering on the bizarre.
Is there backstory on his medical issues?

I hear that Harper kid turned out to be halfway decent at baseball when not being choked by idiot teammates.

It's always entertaining when the mvp is younger than the rookie of the year.

It's happened more than you'd think.

I'd imagine that transcendent talents tend to come in early enough that even early troubles will be sorted in time to make that possible. Except for pitchers, because their arms fall off.
