Yeah that series seemed like it should have been a conference finals or semi finals at least.
This new seeding guarantees that at least 2 of the top 4 teams per conference will be out in the first round.

I don't think the new seeding is particularly responsible for that. If the conference is balanced, then the top 2 teams are playing wildcards, and the other matchups are #3 and #4 vs #5 and #6. That's the same way it would've been before.

Of course, when most of the good teams are in one division, that goes out the window, but I don't think I mind. I agree with Grantland - the new playoffs are sort of fun. I look forward to many, many more Blues/Blackhawks series.

I just checked and it looks like I picked LA, and here I was cheering for SJ!

I just saw LA's game winner from last night.

I haven't seen much of this series. I was surprised to learn that Niemi wasn't in net for SJ. Teams usually don't do well when they switch goalies in the playoffs.

I hope I picked LA. They've got the momentum going into Game 7.

Do all second round games start around the same time or do they start as soon as an opponent is available?

Just trying to judge when picks are due. I got off to a decent start for once.

Second round starts tomorrow night, Montreal at Boston. I imagine the rest of the series will start Friday.

MTL-BOS picks will be due by tomorrow night; the others Friday.

I think yours and everybodys decent start is subject to tonight. I think there is some decent variation in the picks for these 3 series and the difference between going 4-4 and 7-1 is huge.
