Gotta root for McIlroy to finish the job today, especially after learning his father and some friends are sitting on a 10-year old bet at 500-to-1 that Rory would win the Open before turning 26. Dad and friends are looking at a payoff of 200,000 pounds on a wager of 400. Very cool.

I shot the best golf of my life this last 4 days. We had our city match play tournament Thur-Sun. I lost the first day to a very good and consistent veteran 2 up but I gave him a scare, I was down 4 holes with 4 to go and slipping fast, sinking, and won the next 3 birdie birdie par. I missed my birdie putt on 18 and it was over, but he was cussing me for qualifying with an 81 hehe, we shot ~72-74 in our match. I'm not too good at stroke play but match play is very different mentally. In stroke play I'm putting conservatively and constantly playing a back and forth game of leaving it short or ramming it by, but in match play I dont care as much. Who cares if you take an 8 or 10, its just 1 hole.

Yesterday I was rolling putts in from all over the place. It was a sight to see, one long putt after the next. (sorry, no Staff of Rah I went to a long putter last year). I was 3 under for 16 holes with 6 birdies in my semifinal against one of the local hi-school players who said that was the best he ever played too. I ended our match with 4 birdies and started today with 2 more, 6 birds in a row, and I avenged a loss to a damn good player today. Sorry to brag... But man, I out did myself!

Congrats on your game. I haven't played 18 holes in a couple of years but will attempt it next week. I hope I can make it around.

The PGA Tour has suspended Dustin Johnson for six months after he tested positive for cocaine, according to a report on Golf.com.

Citing a source, Golf.com reported that Johnson has failed three drug tests -- two for cocaine (in 2014 and 2012) and one for marijuana (2009).

Johnson, 30, was suspended for the 2012 failed test, Golf.com reported, but that suspension was never made public. Under its guidelines, the PGA Tour is not required to announce any disciplinary actions against players who test positive for recreational drugs.

Johnson announced on Thursday that he was taking a leave of absence from competition, effective immediately, for "personal challenges."

"I will use this time to seek professional help for personal challenges I have faced," he said in a statement issued by his management company. "By committing the time and resources necessary to improve my mental health, physical well-being and emotional foundation, I am confident that I will be better equipped to fulfill my potential and become a consistent champion."

The PGA Tour released a statement Thursday wishing Johnson well. On Friday, executive vice president Ty Votaw said the tour would have no further comment.

Johnson will miss next week's PGA Championship in Louisville, Ky., as well as the FedEx Cup playoffs.

He played the Cadillac Championship in March 2012 and then did not play again until the Memorial in late May. He said then he was not playing because he'd injured his back lifting a jet ski. But Golf.com's source says Johnson was actually serving a suspension for failing a drug test for cocaine. At the time, the tour had no official comment, and Johnson's agent denied that the player had been suspended.

Guess it's a good thing I used all his starts already. Hopefully he uses the opportunity to get straight.
