No more categories. 6x5 is too many already. This is largely a recreational league, it isn't something any of us are spending serious time on, except those of us who are retired in the middle of freaking Kansas. :P

R,H,HR,RBI,SB,OPS would be fine by me, with our current setup in 2nd. For pitching, replace SV with SVHD or keep saves, don't care. CG are idiotic. I don't like TBA either, it's a counting stat that has a perfectly good rate stat [WHIP].

Having offense and pitching unbalanced is weird.

Whip is good but tba measures the quality of the hits given up, sorta - albeit ERA and Whip would cover it enough. I'd like a slugging stat against pitchers and yahoo aint complying, but I'm fine with saves+holds and hits and combine obp and slg. The hitting change will provide a bit more balance for non-sluggers. CG is a good stat (relevant to the game) but was for SPs to counter adding holds, but saves+holds doesn't really enhance a RP strategy much. I'll probably keep the minimum IPs around 15-16

QS and Ks favor SPs
Saves (w/wo Holds) favor RPs
Whip and ERA favor RPs
CG are more rare but favor SPs obviously

anyway, ignore me - I'm always looking for the best stats. What is the standard 5x5?

eh, not a fan of that, I'd like to see BBs and extra base hits represented and ops covers both. I'd like a 6x6 league but we'd need a pitching cat, like

Standard 5x5 is AVG not H, H is just a horrible numeric value which rewards playing time and contact hitters, I hate it.

I prefer last year cats, I'm ok with adding holds to saves but H for OPB is a no no to me.

Net sv+hd are fine. I'd also like to see net SB, really. Fist, why is H any worse than R? Contact hitters do need some representation here, after all. AVG is inferior to OBP, at which point we have OPS already... but if it's [H+OPS] or [OBP+SLG], I guess I don't care that much.

Because a hit per se boosts OBP and SLG directly and has a good chance of generating RBI and R already, I don't feel there is the need to reward it even more with a specific cat.
Not to mention according to the H cat a guy who gets 200 hits and strikes out 50 times during a season is one and the same with the guy who gets 200 hits, 40 walks and strikes out 10 times. Even AVG would discriminate better between the two, I see no reason why H would be better.

I don't particulary like R either but I liked the somewhat symmetry we reached last year with R-RBI and OBP-SLG. Which is what I'm voting for

I agree about the net SB, I'm in favour of that.

OPS is too dominated by the power hitters - then 3.5 of the 5 categories are power-hitter-only categories. Not sure I want a league where Adam Dunn is a third round pick If we drop hits (which I'm fine with), we need OBP+SLG I think. 6x5 is not a bad thing - odd number is good, and having one more batting category is good since pitchers should be less than half your team.

The numerical number of players on each side does not mean pitching is less important than offense. Pitching is the other half of the equation in baseball. Hence equal stats on both sides.

how about Ks for batters? That'll put a dent in those sluggers stats and reward contact hitters

I wouldn't mind another pitching stat but the problem we had was finding 1 stat we could get a majority to agree on. The options just weren't all that good, and I still cant believe yahoo hasn't added a stat for SLG against pitchers. That imo is the best possible pitching stat.

We could even up the stats by adding Holds separately but that tips the balance back towards RPs. If we cant find a happy medium I'd rather favor starters and its close to even now.

I like OBP and SLG, they're just superior stats (relevant) and Snoopy's right, combining them creates more imbalance.

About the extra cat for pitchers what about Total Bases Allowed? Kinda hard to find something decent.
