So you counter with AJ green and Jacobs for Calvin Johnson?

Miles Austin, Best, and Hines Ward for Colston, Addai, Jacobs was at least balanced and mutually beneficial as Austin would be the Best WR on your team bar none and will outperform Colston, and Addai and Jacobs are two players you likely will not even play that much and are just taking up depth. I would part with Ochocinco too but you have crap at WR that can't compensate for it so I'm taking a hit there.

I didn't see the second one, actually; I was talking about the Felix Jones trade, which seemed pretty silly to me. Frankly that trade was worse than the one I sent... the second trade was more reasonable, but I doubt I'd accept it. Hines ward would head to the waiver wire directly, and I don't know that I want to go from deep at RB to shallow directly; I prefer both Jacobs and Addai significantly to Best. So I'd be taking a small increase at WR (10th WR to 5th WR by my calculation, though Austin is much safer) for a massive drop at RB? No, thanks.

I don't in general understand trades that are 'balanced' like that, where you give me a top WR and get back a top WR and give me a bench RB and get back a bench RB. I want a top WR, and will give you a significant RB upgrade to get it. If you're going to offer three players for three nearly identical players, that's not worth my time to look at frankly. This is an auction after all; odds are the players I have are players I value more than you do [I suspect Colston and Jacobs are good examples of this]. I'm not sure I'd consider trading Felix Jacobs for Austin straight up, despite my RB depth...

You're only taking a drop in a position you have plenty of better options at already. Are you trying to maximize your points for the season or minimize my points for the season? Are you sure you're ready to rock with Colston's microfracture knees all season because you might play Addai and Jacobs a grand total of 6-7 times this season due to bye weeks and flex? If you lose Colston to injury you'll have Mike Thomas or AJ Green as your #2 or do you think you'll beat me to the waiver wire if that happens? Is the problem that you just don't like Best enough in a completely backup role for your team in a worst comes to worst scenario?

You have 5.5 Starting Running backs. You'd have 5 bonafide starting running backs after the trade.

Basically, I think I have a lot of value as a result of my RB depth, and eventually someone will give me an upgrade of value for that. I don't see why I should trade away RBs that on many teams would be starting caliber (including yours) in exchange for a very small upgrade at WR. Running with Austin and Garcon vs. running with Colston and Garcon, maybe I get a few extra points a week. I think Yahoo! projects me for +17 points on the year if I do that trade. Just not worth it given that I have significant risk (say, Hillis or Jones going down); I lose more than 17 points on the season if that happens and I don't have the depth; and on the other hand, someone will lose their starting RB in the next few weeks, and Addai/Jacobs/Bush start to sound a lot more valuable in that case...

Why trade away something of significant value - RB depth that will be needed down the line - for that? The only way to significantly improve my team is to replace Garcon with a top 25 WR; so that's the only thing I really want to do. You happen to have two top 7 WRs (austin is between 5 and 7 I'd say) and then ... not much (I don't put Ochocinco in the top 25, though he could finish anywhere from 5th to 95th). I don't really see a productive trade as possible, unless you're willing to trade CJ or Austin for some combination of bench players on my team (or Garcon, though he's basically equivalent to the bench players on my team).

I ran like 4 different permuations of the trade through yahoo and the one of austin, best and ochocinco for addai, jacobs and colston was the most even.

Does this trigger any memories of the conversation we had on the feeling the need to screw the other guy in a trade? Trades don't have to be lopsided in your favor for you to pull the trigger. And I've done better with worse at running back. The waiver wire is my expanded bench.

Yahoo's trade evaluator has one significant downside: It's only evaluating your projected starting lineup. Having a deep RB bench is hugely valuable, both as protection for injuries, and significant trade value later. I don't have a need to 'screw' you in a trade; the issue is that a trade must give me what I want [a significantly stronger WR tandem], and it doesn't sound like I can get that while giving you what you want. I don't expect it to be lopsided in my favor; but given the mix of talent on our respective teams that seems like the only way I could get a WR upgrade. Swap Austin for, say, Santonio Holmes, and we'd probably be able to get a deal done (holmes for addai or something like that).

(by one significant downside, I mean beyond the fact that it's using Yahoo's idiotic projected scoring numbers. I'm not sure I could imagine a reasonable ranking system that would have me start Reggie Bush over Felix Jones every week...)

Ochocinco is as good as Santonio Holmes with far more upside IMO. Do you trust the Sanchize to get Holmes the ball more than Brady does Ochocinco?

And here's the thing; you have 2 starting WRs that are injury risks, one of which will have kerry collins for weeks throwing to him while he's 2/3 on the depth chart. You have rookie on rookie action in Cincy which will turn out well - no doubt, and you have Mike Thomas, basically a copy of Hines Ward without the miles, experience, grit, and QB.

Sure, which is why I'm unwilling to trade away Colston. It's not that I don't believe I need WR upgrades - believe you me, I understand that fully - but just trading Colston out for Austin doesn't really do that for me. I don't really believe in Ochocinco; he's a small upgrade over the guys I have, perhaps, but there are too many question marks about how he'll be used (particularly with the lack of prep time), and I'd rather have a couple of #1 WRs on bad offenses than him. Either way I don't find justified a six player trade just to acquire one WR...

So Ocho for RB wouldn't be out of the question?

I probably wouldn't do that until after week one at least, just to see how they actually use Ocho. I'm not as up on him as you are - I'd take Holmes over Ocho any day of the week. But if Ocho performs around his predicted norm (around 60-80 yards a game, obviously targeted for some long TDs) then I'd definitely consider that after a week or two.
