Essentially, don't imagine that QBs just make completions and incompletions without yards, because that doesn't make sense and doesn't happen in the real world. Here are some more helpful ways to think about it.
1 yard per attempt and a 50% completion rate is worth 0 points.
A 4-yard pass is worth three times what a 1-yard pass is. A 13-yard pass is worth 3 times what a 4-yard pass is.
Better yet:
52% completion rate, 7.0 yards per attempt = .606 points per attempt.
