After an impressive run, beating teams from Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Medicine Hat, the Kootenay Ice completed an improbable run by beating the Portland Winter Hawks in the league championship tonight (May 13th) winning their 3rd championship in the short history of the club (but their first since 2002).
Especially impressive were the 11 game winning streak witch started in Game 4 versus Moose Jaw, and ended in game 1 of the final, and beating heavily favoured Saskatoon (Ranked #2 in Canada) in 4 games straight, and heavily favoured Portland in 5 games in a final (including the last 4) which looked more lopsided then it was as 3 of the 5 games went to overtime.
Impressive run, I look forward to the Memorial Cup If they continue to play like they have throughout the WHL playoffs, they should be a strong contender for the Memorial Cup.
