  • Mildly surprised they didn't run a bit more at the end there... wonder what would've happened if they had.

    • Here's my question... all those years in Atlanta and none of those coaching staffs could turn Vick into a passer yet Andy Reid could do it in one year? What's up with that?

      • Andy Reid is a very good QB coach.

          • Also, as I keep saying (and as only Jaguar on this forum seems to realize), the Falcons talent around Vick was HORRIBLE. They had a crappy OL, and crappy WRs (until Roddy White got there and even then, Vick only got him for a couple years).

And what "none of those coaching staffs" do you mean? There were only two - Dan Reeves' (2 years, IIRC) and then Jim Mora's. Not that Mora was a good coach.

            • Falcons got away with one today. But they played well. Kudos to them for being in position to take advantage after Hartley shanked a 29-yarder.

Regardless of the talent around him or lack thereof (he did have Warrick Dunn and Alge Crumpler, don't forget though), you'd have to be delusional to think he was actually a good passer.

Vick says it himself that he wasn't and that he was lazy on the Falcons.

                    • So are you actually going to say that supporting talent doesn't matter?

Seriously, you just named another running back and a TE to show that he had talent to catch the ball.

                      • We'll see what his yardage at the end of the year is The Jets were without their cover corner, don't forget. I very much wonder if Revis Island could've changed those totals a bit. The Dolphins did pass a lot more than I expected, though.

                        Also, great graphic

I'm saying that regardless of the talent around a QB, you can usually identify if it's him or his receivers. In a case like Vick, he had such poor throwing mechanics, didn't have good reads, etc. that it was obvious that he wasn't much of a passer, regardless of who was around him. I don't think anyone would dispute that or would dispute that Vick has improved immensely in those areas. Hell, Vick has said himself that he was lazy and wasn't much of a passer back then. He's publicly said that McNabb and Reid are the reasons for his improvement.

                          • I'd like to see this trend continue. Maybe after all the smoke clears, he'll really be a QB.

Vick's stellar early season play continued Sunday, as he went 17-of-31 for 291 yards, passed for three touchdowns through the air, and rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown during the Eagles' win over the Jaguars.

Recommendation: Vick's passing has been absolutely outstanding so far this season, as he has a 6:0 TD:INT ratio through three games, and his completion percentage has also been higher than his career average.
I underline the rushing total to emphasize that rushing isn't foremost on his mind right now. A lot of QB's will rush for 30 yards in a game. That's acceptable. To be the team's leading rusher in pro ball wasn't acceptable.

                            • This Vick quote says it all:

"I'm 10 times better than I was four years ago,'' Vick said. "I've learned so much about the position, about being a complete quarterback, from [coach] Andy [Reid] and [offensive coordinator] Marty [Mornhinweg]. How to stay active back there, how to make good decisions, or they'll be down my throat. I like that. It's something I need.''
Again, it makes you really wonder what the hell were those Atlanta coaches doing all those years? It took a year of Reid to turn Vick into a passer. Why couldn't Reeves or Mora do that, considering how much they had invested in him?

                              • I think it could of been things outside of football that caused him to rethink many things. Kind of like leading a horse to water scenario.
