The most that can be done, without it being utter crap, is to cut the rounds. If you don't cut back on the rounds, all just STFU and quit the whining. Work your draft and live with it.
The problem, Sloww, is in deep leagues, they don't get shorted at other positions because there's no one out there anyway on the waiver wire. It's more cost effective to use roster spots to hoard QB's than use them to acquire the Brian Hartlines and Brandon Gibsons of the world. What value is there in having Brandon Gibson on your bench?

The opportunity cost of having multiple QB's on your bench is zero.

Why? I mean seriously, aside from the reason of wanting to limit other people from having QB's, why have 4? You say it sucks not having 1 guy you can go to each week so what? Every sunday, you're debating which of the four to start? It's anytime free agency so cut the QB's you don't need and acquire them back if you feel someone's going to be hot. I can't fathom any need in having 4 QB's unless you want to prevent others from owning them.

        • It's funny. QB's start getting scarce on the waiver wire and then there's a rush on them and hoarding. It's like economic forces at play in fantasy football.

          • at telling Berz he should do more transactions...

It's not about limiting others, Alby. If you guess wrong on your first 2 QBs (say, Kolb gets hurt and Favre kind of sucks), you have no choice but to try to find favorable weekly matchups to exploit. Otherwise you have almost zero chance against the big gun QBs. It makes much more sense to argue for nerfing the QB position than to whine about how people manage their rosters.

I started the year with 2 QBs in the 12-man IDP league, but I have right now -- Cutler (sucks/bye this week), Favre (sucks/hurt), Tarvaris (Favre handcuff) and Kitna (insurance/option). These are legitimate needs. I make no apologies for this, and I can assure you, I did NOT do this for any other reason than trying to survive. If I had a Manning/Rivers/Brees type, I'd carry one backup and he'd play one time (assuming good health). I don't have that luxury. I didn't do this to screw anyone else; I rarely look at any roster other than the guy I'm playing next. I actually NEED all four of these guys (at least for now).

Your inability to fathom things is growing legendary. But at least you admit it.

            • Jrabbit, part of the reason why you're forced into having Jackson AND Kitna, though is because of the scarcity of QB's on the waiver wire. If, let's say, a David Garrard or Sam Bradford of Josh Freeman were still available, you'd probably have one of them and be starting them this week instead of owning both Jackson and Kitna, am I right? Like I was saying, the start of a scarcity motivates hoarding and the problem becomes exacerbated.

Look, I have Favre in D/ST league. I just picked up Jackson. I have no idea which of the two to start. I have literally no options, however, since there is no starting QB on the waiver wire. If there were somebody, I would replace Jackson with them although some speculator among us would probably snatch up Jackson in a heartbeat and they can afford to do that since their roster spot is otherwise worthless and is devoted to a Brandon Gibson-type. See, so that would force me to cut a RB/WR to keep Jackson and voila, I'm hoarding QB's, albeit really trashy ones, just so someone else wouldn't grab Jackson in case Favre breaks completely. But, again, there's not even someone to pick up out there to begin with.

There's Max Hall/Derek Anderson but I don't know who will start between them and Max Hall has negative points on the season. There are no other QB's on the waiver wire. Colt McCoy and Troy Smith are taken. They are the 3rd QB's on Sloww's and MRT's teams, respectively. Why Sloww who has Brady and Bradford felt the need to pick up McCoy? Why does half the league have 3 or more QB's?

Berz has Orton, Matt Moore, and Kitna. What's the purpose? Orton is a top 10 fantasy QB. The sensible thing to do would be to look at who has the favorable matchup on the Denver bye between Moore and Kitna and drop the other one. But considering that someone in my boat would immediately grab Moore, Berz will hold onto Moore though he does nothing for him just to prevent someone from snatching him in the off-chance that Kitna sucks completely and Orton gets hurt.

MRT, meanwhile, has Aaron Rodgers, top fantasy QB, along with Kerry Collins and Troy Smith. Why, exactly? Probably the same logic... well, if Rodgers gets hurt and he keeps the wrong QB between those two, or if Vince Young/Alex Smith returns quicker than expected, etc. So he hoards QB's based on contingencies upon contingencies.

I'm the one hit hardest by the QB scarcity which might be why I'm bringing it up but it's not about me. Until this week, I had gone a couple weeks with Favre as my ONLY QB! I just want everyone to be honest about it and why they're hoarding QB's. It's about scarcity, hoarding, denying the next man, and contingencies upon contingencies that are statistically unlikely.

Just admit it, you bastards It's like the OPEC embargo with quarterbacks over here.

                • Handcuffing, as Jr did, is really one pick in my book. Next year, make your first three picks a QB, then you'll be safe, on one position.
Don't worry about a RB, you'll be safe at QB. WR? Wait until your 10th pick. What the Hell? Get 2 Kickers and be safe there, too.

I had 3 with the same bye week

But see that largely happened because of the scarcity. If there were more QB's out there, you would have been able to get a serviceable QB without the same bye week as your starter.

It's just interesting to see the scarcity lead to hoarding and more scarcity in an ever-increasing cycle til all QB's are exhausted.

Second off, we just need to reduce the bench spots next year. By half, preferably.

So basically, you got caught with your pants down. It's a 14-team league, QBs are a known scarcity, and you didn't react to that fact in drafting or the waiver wire. Favre sucks and you have no alternative? The waiver wire is open to all, dude. And trades are, I believe, allowed.

Sounds like bad management to me.

Well I had Jason Campbell... cut him for Gradkowski and started Gradkowski like two weeks til he got hurt... but someone had picked up Campbell by then. It's a little bizarre that someone would feel the need to pick up Campbell considering how bad he has been. But he's on Guy's team along with McNabb and Sanchez. McNabb and Sanchez sounds alright. What? Is Guy scared that after losing Romo, he'd also lose McNabb AND Sanchez to injury? Is there a single week you would start Campbell over either of those guys?

That's my point. This is more about the economics of scarcity and hoarding than fantasy football strategy. It's interesting, though.
