To be fair, anyone think Gilbert is just a whining *****? LeBron gave Cleveland a good what? 7 years? and 5 minutes after signing elsewhere, Gilbert comes out talking a ****storm. I've never seen anything like that in sports before. Not from an owner at least.

I've also never seen a one hour special for a free agent signing. Gilbert has said some other things that I've disagreed with and I've reacted accordingly but I don't think he's too far off base on his assessment this time.

And people in Cleveland are burning his jerseys. One bar gives you a free beer if you turn in a James jersey or tshirt and another if you have something of another Cleveland athlete. Gilbert's not the only one that's mad about Lebron ditching his hometown.

I can't blame him for signing with Miami, really. He's a free agent, a grown man, he gets to make the decision that he feels is best for him.


However, the way it was done? Completely classless.

I never, ever, ever would have thought, as a Detroit fan, that I'd hate a NBA team more than I hate the Lakers, Celtics, and Bulls (in descending order of hatred). Looks like I was wrong.

Different sport but I seem to remember a few Ohio natives who were thrilled to play for their hometown team but got the boot from the storied Browns franchise... Charlie Frye, Brady Quinn, Joe Jurevicious....

To be fair, teams will drop players in a heartbeat... it's only fair when a free agent can do the same.

I am perfectly fine with players switching teams. It's a valid thing.

My issue is that lebron got up in front of the world on ESPN after going on for years about how much he loves northeast Ohio, how much he values loyalty, family, and his home town, and just bolts like a fart in the wind.

As for the other guys you mentioned, none were as devoted or vociferous as lebron.

That's what they said in 2007 when the Celtics traded away their whole team sans Paul Pierce for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. It worked out for them.
