Braden threw a prefect game against the Rays on Sunday, striking out six in the process. He needed just 109 pitches to go the distance.

Recommendation: Braden threw just the 19th perfect game in major league history, and the sixth no-hitter ever for the A's.

Dallas isn't letting up on A-Rod. He's still pissed off.

            A-Rod:
"I've learned in my career, it is much better to be recognized for all the great things you do on the field," Rodriguez said. "Good for him, he threw a perfect game. And better yet, he beat the Rays."

The squabble was still making news leading up to this start, and they were going back and forth in recent days. On Friday in Boston, A-Rod said he didn't want "to extend his extra 15 minutes of fame."
But the feud didn't end there.
After Braden's historic accomplishment, The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser, through her Twitter account, posted: "Dallas Braden's grandmother is here and speaking to the press. She says, and I'm not joking, 'Stick it, A-Rod.'"

As Braden celebrated the feat, Sunday night's Yankee starter, A.J. Burnett, was alone in the Fenway clubhouse and watched Braden. As Braden hugged an older looking woman, Burnett said out loud, to no one in particular, "Grandma, don't cross my mound."

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict that the Phillies score a run tonight. It COULD happen.

What's really funny is how they can suck so hard and still be in first place.

1/3rd of the way into the season, here's where we stand...

The AL East continues to be the power division in MLB. The Rays are cooling off a bit, which has allowed the Yankees, Red Sox, and surprising Blue Jays to come into striking distance. The Yanks currently lead the wild card, with the Jays one game back, and the Red Sox two.

The AL Central appears to be a race between the two teams that went to an extra game last year, with the Twins holding a 3.5 game lead on the Tigers, while continuing to dominate the Tigers head-to-head. If the wild card doesn't come from the AL East (a rather unlikely proposition), it'll almost certainly come from the runner-up here.

The AL West is the home of mediocrity this season, with the Rangers, A's, and Angels all hovering around .500, and all with a good shot of winning the division. The trendy preseason-pick Mariners have been, predictably, awful.

The NL East is a free-for-all, with the first place Phillies holding a 4 game lead over the last place Nats and Marlins.

The NL Central is led by the surprise team of the year, the Reds, with the Cards right on their heels, and no one else really a factor.

The NL West is another tight race, with only the D-Backs out of it, and everyone else within 4 games of each other, with the surprising Padres in the driver's seat.

The NL Wildcard is wide open, with six teams within 3 games of each other, currently led by the Cards.

                              Individual award frontrunners...

AL MVP--Miguel Cabrera, a potential triple-crown candidate, though certainly not a run away.

AL Cy Young--David Price (?), but this is probably the most wide open individual race at this point.

AL Rookie--Austin Jackson or Brennan Boesch would appear to have this locked up for the Tigers, but Neftali Perez is also a great candidate if the Rangers continue to contend.

NL MVP--Andre Ethier continues to be a legit triple crown candidate, despite missing several games with an injury; it is his race to lose, unless...

NL Cy Young--Ubaldo Jiminez continues to be the second coming of Bob Gibson, while pitching half of his games in Coors Field! Roy Halladay, who just pitched a perfect game and has an ERA under 2, hasn't a prayer at this point.

NL Rookie-- Jason Heyward, in the biggest runaway in any of the individual races. And that's saying a lot, given that Jaime Garcia has an ERA of 1.14. If the Braves manage to make the playoffs, Heyward could even win the MVP.
