Hey, preaching to the choir. I've thought for a long time there should be a rookie pay scale.

I don't see any reason why rookies shouldn't make decent bucks. The life span in the NFL is not a long one, like many other sports. But there needs to be some limitations. A generous pay scale that doesn't make an unproven rookie who may never even play a down in the NFL higher paid than proven stars would be a nice thing.

And its even worse for quarterbacks. The team is pressured to start them right away, since if they sit on the bench for learning it's even more ludicrous considering what they're being paid. And if in their third year year before they actually prove themselves then they almost ready for free agency. Totally stupid.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next collective bargining agreement deals with those issues. Especially since it's the current players getting screwed as more and more of the cap room goes to unproven and yet to play kids.
Veterans with proven track records and long histories with the team are getting cut or being asked to take a pay cut so some kid who has never proven crap can get a big contrackt.
