How you rank teams and how home field advantage plays into that.

Home-field advantage doesn't play into my rankings unless a team has one or two road losses by extremely small margins. Nebraska is the only team in my top-ten that this really applies to, as their one-point loss to VT suggests that they would beat VT on a neutral field (and are thus the better team). It also suggests they would beat Miami on a neutral field, since Miami got blown out by VT.

Oklahoma also has a loss that suggests that they were actually the better team (against Miami), but they also have a clear loss to BYU. Bradford's injury makes it difficult to read too much into that game, however, making OU one of the bigger mysteries in the top ten.

Drake... you do realize that, by your argument, Michigan should be undefeated? Two road games--tied at the end of regulation at MSU, lost by 2 at Iowa? Are you saying Michigan should rank among the undefeated, along with suddenly undefeated Nebraska?

I can see what you are saying when you are pointing to a single loss... but what happens when a team losses more than one game on the road by less than 3 points. Do they become "real" losses then, or are you still counting those as victories.

And I'm sorry... Nebraska LOST to VT, and looking at strength of schedule, and record VT is a better team. You can "suggest" all you want that they might have won on a neutral field or at home, but at the end of the day, they lost a big game. As far as them being able to beat Miami, I probably agree with you... at this point in time.
But unless the teams play, we will never know the true answer. And that's why I don't buy into the Nebrasks is better than VT stuff... they had their chance, and lost. Staying within 3 points doesn't change the fact that they lost. It's not like some meaningless team got a lucky win against them... we are talking about a team with one of the toughest schedules in the country, and have proved themselves by winning their games.
