  • I have to say I didn't like two of the three calls in the 3rd quarter (the personal fouls). Other than that, I didn't have a problem with the officiating.

I suspect the booth reviewed the last call, decided it clearly fell into the definition of 'fumble', and let it go - which is what the booth should do if that is true. I am not well enough versed in the tuck rule/forward pass/fumble definitions to say one way or the other... it could have been either, to me, but as presumably the booth officials know the rules very well, I'll go with their judgment on that one.

    • As for SB Ads ratings:

      1) Doritos - Crystal Ball
      2) Pepsi Max - I'm Good
      3) Coke Zero - Mean Troy
      4) NBC - Heroes Football
      5) (tie) Pepsi - Refresh Anthem (the one with the Pepsi throughout the ages) / Hulu - Alec and Huluworld

The Firestone Taters, Bud Light Swedish (with Conan), Audi Chase (going through the ages) and the Cash4Gold Heeeere's Money were great.

A very good year for SB commercials.

Which is fine for a regular season game, but this is the Super Bowl. There is absolutely no reason to not review and let everyone know you are reviewing it.

There are gonna be complaints because they didn't.

That'd be kinda silly. If anything it was on the line enough to do a full review.

Oh, to add, the announcing was top notch in this game too. Madden's pointing out of the Steelers' strategy to take away Fitzgerald opened up the flanks was brilliant. It seemed in the 2nd half, the Steelers saw it too and decided to move away a bit from it, opening up Fitzgerald more.

Doritos wasn't the best, it was lame until the very end.

            Pepsi Max was better.

            • This sums up my feelings pretty well:

It will go down as one of the most thrilling Super Bowls of all-time. But, as has become all too common in the NFL, an officiating controversy threatens to overshadow the stellar play on the field.

On the final Cardinals play from scrimmage, as the team was driving for a potential game-winning score, Kurt Warner turned over the ball after his arm was hit by Lamarr Woodley. The play was ruled a fumble, and it may have been. Or it may have been an incomplete pass. The problem is, there was no official replay review to take a closer look at the ruling. Instead, the Steelers got the ball, knelt down for the win and earned the sixth title in franchise history.

Frankly, it's remarkable that there was no booth challenge to review the play. It was certainly close enough to warrant a look from upstairs. In all probability, the call on the field would have been confirmed. But why not appease the masses and nip any talk of controversy in the bud?

It was a night marred by questionable calls, but the game managed to make everyone forget about the disparity in penalties (106 yards for the Cardinals against just 56 for the Steelers). The 11 penalties whistled on Arizona included a preposterous roughing the passer penalty on a play that wouldn't have been uncommon in touch football. (The Steelers would later score on the drive.)

Officiating controversies have become way too prevalent in this league. It's too bad a great Super Bowl may be marred by a decision that would have been easily remedied by a simple booth review.

                  • Ah, I see the officiating has been noted. Well let me chime in on that also. It was so bad we were joking about future penalties against the Cards: "Almost roughing the kicker, 5 yards, auto 1st down," "Holding defense, 10 yards... oh wait, the Steelers are defending? I meant Holding, offense, ..."

                      Crazy talk!

When the guy threw the globe through the vending machine and said his prediction came true was utter hilariousness.

                        • Agreed on Career Builder... that should've been a 10 second commercial, not a 30. Also didn't accomplish the goal of any advertising - most people tuned out before they knew what it was a commercial for.

My favorite was the Scarecrow for GE... I didn't much care for the Doritos commercial. I did like the I'm Good Pepsi Max commercial.

                            • I really wanted to see the Cards win -- new blood, underdog, etc. But the game was entertaining as hell, especially the end. That's all I ask for in a Super Bowl.

Biggest man-crush: Steve Young, for Ben Roethlisberger. Almost embarrassing. Get a room.
