  • I heard on the radio Monday or Tuesday night that the Vikes currently hold the tiebreaker. So my statement is as accurate as Hub Arkush.

Don't know if he was talking about 2 or 3 teams being tied, but he's generally much more accurate and factual than typical sports broadcasters.

    • Fantasy question:

I'm #1 seed in my league but I will probably lose in the first round because of my opponents match ups. Still, my RB situation is up in the air. I have Forte, and will start him. My 2nd and only other running back has been Ryan Grant, who has been a disappointment this year. So, should I start him or Pierre Thomas (who I picked up when McAllister was first charged with substance abuse) or Ricky Williams? I have Thomas slotted. With McAllister out and Bush on injury, coupled with the fact that they aren't in playoff contention, I think he'll see a lot of action.

      Advice?

      • doesn't NO play Atlanta? Pierre runs catches and even does some runbacks. Who else you got and who is Grant up against? Why are you a #1 seed playing this week? I'm the 1 seed in 2 leagues and this is either a bye week or the last week of our season (15/16 are the play off weeks). Is that a ppc league w/wo return yards?

        • hmm...Grant's up against Houston. I haven't been paying att to Bush's health or Grant's, but I'd go with Grant if he's healthy.

          • Bush is supposed to get a full load this week, with Thomas playing Deuce's role from last year. Atlanta has the #21 run defense, Houston is #23. Grant has a good matchup esp. in GB. The weather will be around freezing and I expect the Packers to run a lot.

One of the sites I use rates your RBs as follows, for this week's matchup:

            (PPR scoring)
            17. Ryan Grant
            32. Ricky the Pot-head
            69. Pierre Thomas

            (non-PPR scoring)
            16. R Grant
            33. R Williams
            69. Pierre T.

            Another site I like says:
            25. Grant
            31. Ricky
            32. Pierre

I would start Grant. Hands down.

            • sprained right thumb, but he's practicing. His backup has quad troubles so Grant looks good to go. I'd like to know what happened to him the last 2 weeks though, he tore up Da Bears

              • Grant or Ricky, honestly i'd take Ricky but either over Pierre Thomas unless you get points for return yards.

                  • Question:

I have Antonio Gates as my TE, they played last night and beat Oakland, I just knew he would light em up, but yahoo had no mention of him not playing, but he had no receptions and NO FREAKIN POINTS!!! and cant find anything on him?

Does anyone know if he was hurt or just resting?

                    Thanks

                    • Gates played and AFAIK is not injured. Your problem is with the Chargers game plan. Basically, they just ran the ball all night -- like 46 times or something. Rivers only completed 10 passes, and Gates was only targeted twice.

                          • Monkey wrench in Saturday reports:
According to the New Orleans Times Picayune, if Pierre Thomas can't handle the feature back duties over the final four weeks, "the Saints almost certainly will sign or draft someone who can this spring."

Thomas understands he has a prime opportunity over the final month, dubbing it his "Lance Moore moment." Since capturing the role three weeks ago, Thomas has averaged 4.9 yards per carry and 106 total yards per game to go with four touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton said, "You'll see him get a lot of touches this weekend."
No idea if this is Payton posturing or not. I merely post it in the interest of full disclsure, trying to make sure Japher is as confused and uncertain as possible.

                            • Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Friday that Ryan Grant will see his "normal workload" in Week 14 against the Texans.

Grant is a high-end RB2 after this news. While Brandon Jackson was productive on his touches in Week 13 after Grant sprained his thumb, the Packers clearly don't trust B-Jax to play a major role and consider Grant a far superior option. Whether that's good personnel evaluation is debatable, but Grant should get 20 carries in a highly favorable matchup vs. Houston.

                              • Barber out for Dallas Cowboys' game in Pittsburgh

06:32 PM CST on Saturday, December 6, 2008

By BRIAN DAVIS / The Dallas Morning News
                                brdavis@dallasnews.com

PITTSBURGH – Cowboys running back Marion Barber did not travel with the team Saturday and will not play today against Pittsburgh because of his dislocated right pinkie toe.

The Cowboys hoped that by resting Barber all week he would be ready to face the NFL's No. 1-ranked defense. The training staff also tried different shoes to see which one would give Barber the best comfort and support.

Instead, rookie Tashard Choice will make his first start of the season. Alonzo Coleman was promoted from the practice squad Friday to provide depth.

Coach Wade Phillips said Barber's absence probably wouldn't affect the game plan. Barber and Choice have similar running styles, Phillips said.

"You probably count more on the passing game than you would with your backup running back," Phillips said. "But I've seen cases were the backup running back has come in and had big games. And we think Tashard is a good back. I think it will be similar."

As good as Choice may be, Barber's injury could have an affect on the passing game. He ranks third on the team with 47 catches, many of which are checkdowns. Barber has 366 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.

Barber suffered the injury in the first half of the Thanksgiving Day win over Seattle. X-rays were negative, so Barber tried to return in the third quarter. He had one carry for 4 yards and then left the game for good. Choice ran for 57 yards on 11 carries in mop-up duty.

"Whenever it's your chance, you've got to step up and be ready to play," Choice said last week. "We've got to win. We've got to continue to survive to get into the playoffs."
