    • If people join a league without checking out the settings, they have no right to b1tch. I think League 2 had non-standard yardage settings last year, IIRC suggested by snoopy. The talent is spread a bit thin across 14 teams, which makes key injuries much more critical.

      While I'm willing to play most any reasonable settings, I do prefer IDP and I don't want to end up in an auction league. (Hm, I think I've posted that last sentence before.)

      Anyway, once you guys have figured out which league I'm in, let me know.

      • 14 is interesting, in that you end up with players mattering that didn't before (but, on the other hand, the superstar(s) you end up with are more important than ever). It's not a dramatic change from 12, though (much bigger from 10) so I think people will manage.

        The main thing you need to make sure of is that with 14 teams, you don't make the rosters too large - if you allow too many people on the bench, the FA pool is absolutely useless. At most 1 backup/position should be allowed (assuming you have a flex position), so if you have the standard 1:2:3:1:1:1 + 1 flex rb/wr (qb/rb/wr/te/k/d), you have 10+6 or 16 roster spots at maximum, and preferably 15 (who needs a backup kicker... not you!).

        • I would disagree, snoop. There's actually plenty of depth in the NFL. The problem is that we draft before knowing who the specialists and sleepers really are. BTW, that extra spot can be used to stash an injured starter or speculative backup at a weak position.

          There are about 50 or so star-quality FF players in the NFL, maybe 60 depending on where you draw the line. So 14 teams means (roughly) just four star-type players per team, which makes injuries far more devastating. That's bad for competitive balance and puts much greater iimportance on those early picks -- which happen before the first preseason game.

          My FFZ league last year had 10 teams, 22 spots/team (4 IDP starters), and there was still plenty of meaningful waiver wire action.

          BTW, you're suggesting a 3rd WR AND an RB/WR flex??? I've never seen that before.

          Remember, we played 10-team leagues last year. So the change (to 14) would be significant.

                      • I feel the same way about D/ST. Over half the game of football compressed into one roster slot, worth about 10% of team scoring. Talk about unbalanced game design...

                              Let me know when we draft individual special team players as well and give them scores based on breaking the wedge and stuff

                                I'll take those who are signed up for two leagues, plus whoever else joins, until we have 12 players.

                                Note: Right now I have D/ST, with return touchdowns counting only for D/STs. (In other words, Hester is not a viable fantasy receiver.) If people clamor for some other arrangement, I'll consider it.
