Cornell first entrant into the Dance

There was jubilation on the court as Cornell head coach Steve Donahue and his players took turns snipping the net and taking away a piece of history.

"I'm like a proud parent. These guys took me for a ride," Donahue said summing up the team's season. "I'm proud of the program we've built and what these guys have accomplished. They're very talented kids that have bought into every thing we do."

The Big Red last won an Ivy League title in 1988 and no team other than Penn or Princeton has won the league since then.

Old-timers know I spent a year as an undergrad at the Big Red U. While all the circumstances of academic insanity and real life convalesced to add up to the school not being right for me, I've got no ill will, and it's about time that someone other than Princeton or Penn got to the Dance from the Ivy.

(BTW, for those of you who came here thinking this was a Lombardi thread... we'll be opening up for business sometime during championship week.)
