    The Apolyton NFL End of Season Awards Thread

    Vote on the awards listed below. My votes are included in this post for now. I'll also put my all-pro and all-rookie teams in the next post, and if people are interested in making their own, we can have voting on those too. Voting results will be in the third post of this thread. I'll count the votes of anyone who posts in this thread, even if they don't vote for all of the awards.

    Oh, and the "Breakout ____ of 2008" is a prediction, not an award for this season's performance.

          And the offensive player of the year should go to Brady.
          Moss didn't even lead the league in yardage, and only finished 8th in receptions. Sure he had 23 touchdowns, but Brady was the one that threw them to him

          Brady set a record with 50 TD's, led the league in yardage... threw only 8 interceptions, led the league in QB rating... Had the highest completion rate... Talk about the best offensive player... He was it by a long shot.

            Dammit, Jaguar... your list is almost exactly what I would have done.

            It must be from talking to you on Google Talk about football all this season . Willis, btw, is a MONSTER. He'll be a defensive player of the year soon enough in this league. Thomas vs. Peterson is, IMO, the closest race. But I'll have to go more for Thomas as well... AND, I'd name him the most underrated offensive player as well.

            And probably Derek Anderson of Cleveland as Breakout Player of the Year.

                I don't have an award vote for breakout player of 2007, although I'd certainly give it to Derek Anderson. Seriously, who the hell is this guy?

                As for Thomas vs Peterson, I'd take 16 games of Thomas over 14 games of Peterson. Also, Chester Taylor's success lends credence to my claim that Minnesota has one of the best run-blocking lines I've ever seen.

                On the other hand, I feel like Peterson's chance for a historic season was mostly destroyed by factors beyond his control - injuries and Tarvaris Jackson.

                  Randy Moss didn't even lead his own team in receptions, personally Wes Welker is as important to that team as Moss is.

                  For offensive rookie, hard to vote personally for a lineman, I haven't seen any of their games, there aren't any official stats for lineman either.

                  Adrian Peterson is the easy choice, because we all see what he did.

                    You are high. Welker may be a good possession receiver, but without Moss that team sets NO records this year. Welker just doesn't have the same big play ability and he was able to catch that many balls because Moss was drawing all that coverage on the other side... and STILL catching all those long passes and TDs.

                      On Welker and Moss, go with what your eyes tell you. Welker gets to make lots of short catches unmolested because Moss clears three defenders out to deep right field most of the time. It's hard to see because the TV cameras like to focus on the pass rush and the QB until the ball gets thrown. But if you watch another team's games, you'll see that any receiver trying to catch short passes generally gets leveled, and that doesn't happen to Welker, because the safeties are too busy to deal with him.

                      If you prefer to go by stats, consider what Moss has done to his quarterbacks, starting in 1998. The 1998 Vikings had Randall Cunningham throw for 34 touchdowns in only 14 games. That's 4 more touchdowns than he had thrown for in the last five years combined. The next year, he got Jeff George (yes, Jeff George) to put up a QB rating of 94, a career high. Over the next few years, Daunte Culpepper looks like a legitimate Hall of Fame quarterback, and now he can't even start for Oakland. Seriously, how many quarterbacks will it take before we realize what has been happening here?

                      The same is true for all of Moss's coaches. At one time, Denny Green, Scott Linehan, and Brian Billick were all considered offensive gurus, because they were lucky enough to have Moss. How are those guys doing now? One's out of a job, and the other two are about to be. Green and Billick were, of course, famous for setting the season scoring record with their 1998 Vikings offense, a record not broken until this year by the 2007 Patriots. The only player that those two teams have in common is Randy Moss.

                      I hate the guy, frankly, but he is the most talented offensive player ever, and he has actually stayed focused this year.

                              Same for Marshall. He got 1300 yards. What would a breakout be? 1600?

                              We could add a breakout team/player of 2007 category, I suppose. I'd go with the Browns and Pittsburgh LB James Harrison.
