Texas crowned best football state
Representatives from USA Football are at the Ranch today to present the State of Texas with the Governor's Cup, given to what the organization deems as the best football state in country.
Here are five categories in which states were ranked:
1. Number of boys playing high school football
2. Number of boys who sign letters of intent to play Div. I-A football
3. Number of 2007 NFL Draftees born in each state
4. Number of NFL coaches, assistants included, born in each state
5. Nielsen TV ratings of in-market NFL games
Pennsylvania was second, and Florida was also in the top five. There to accept for Texas were four Cowboys who played high school and college football in the state: Head coach Wade Phillips (Port Neches-Groves HS/Houston), safety Keith Davis (Italy High/Sam Houston State), guard Leonard Davis (Wortham High/Texas) and linebacker Justin Rogers (Commerce High/SMU).
"I think those of us from Texas and in Texas figured this award might be coming this way," Phillips said. "We do think we're the best football state and we appreciate USA Football doing this. So thank you from all of Texas football."
