  • I think Big 12 and SEC represented themselves well.
I haven't looked at the stats of W-L, that's just an impression.

          10. ...who knows? Let's say, mmm, Oregon.

In the final AP poll, 9-4 Florida finished 5 spots ahead of 9-4 Michigan, who finished 5 spots ahead of 9-4 Oregon. Bang up work there, voters!

            • As did Michigan, if they finished that far behind Florida after beating them, and with IMO higher quality losses if I recall Florida's right... Oregon was hurt badly by the late losses (injuries), and Michigan hurt by the early losses, unfortunately.

                    • Appalachian State cannot be twisted into a "quality loss" no matter how you try. But your point about beating Florida in the final game and being well behind them in the final poll is a good one.

                      My take on final rankings:
                      1. LSU
                      2. Other

                      • Oh, Appalachian State is not a good loss by any means, though I don't think it's the horrid loss some think it is. It's better than Stanford by a country mile (though I'll admit USC is the better team overall). I don't think one loss to a horrible team necessarily means you are a poor team, however; other than App State, UM lost to very good teams (Oregon should have been a top-ten team except for the late injuries, Wisconsin is not a bad team either and UM had its share of injuries there, and OSU is, well, pretty darn good regardless of last night's debacle). From what I recall Florida's other three losses weren't as good; correct me if i'm wrong. Either way, UM beat Florida in the bowl game, and that should count for something...

If I were entirely serious I probably wouldn't put UM at 10, I admit, but frankly I can't think of another team that did well enough this year to overcome my slight homerism... I'd bet at least one AP voter from southern Michigan put the Wolverines at least that high

                          • The final BCS standings saw the SEC finish 1-2: No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Southern Cal, No. 4 Missouri, No. 5 Ohio State.
                            Meanwhile, Georgia proposes a playoff.

Adams would like a special NCAA committee to work out the particulars, but the plan calls for the winners of the four major bowls -- Rose, Sugar, Orange and Fiesta -- to play semifinals at least one week later, with the championship game the following week.
The president of the University of Georgia is calling for an eight-team playoff system for college football's top division.

I will start by saying I am merely a fan of great Football

I am very foggy as to what exactly qualifies a team to be rated where...

I have heard, but not sure, that a lot of politics goes into Bowl Selection.

If this is so, is not this proposition merely widening Pandoras Box?

I enjoy your great experts (No I aint trolling, just Vicodin working old Gramps here) educating me

What sayeth ye all on this being a good thing versus just more muddying of waters?

                              Thanks much

                              • It's no different than the NFL playoffs, given the fact that bowls are pretty much regionalized.
