  • Desmond Howard wasn't a bust, but he certainly wasn't what most thought he would be coming out of college.

    • This year in college football, for passing efficiency, Colt Brennan was #1. Senior Brian Brohm, who will likely be the first QB drafted was # 3.

Care to guess who was 2nd?

      Colt McCoy, Texas
29 Td's and 7 Ints. 68.24% completion rate. 161.8 QB rating. Sophomore even.

Slowwhand, I say he makes it as an impact player in the NFL, I watched him maybe 4 times in past two years, lots of poise and lots of talent.

I wish him well and hope he continues on his path

        • I was kind of surprised. I have a tendency to judge harshly those closest to me. Football included.

You are, once again, confused on your numbers. Those were Colt McCoy's freshman numbers... LAST YEAR (when he was 8th in passing efficiency).

This year, he was less impressive (24th):

            2007 Colt had 21 TDs, 18 Ints, 64.9% completion %, and a 140.24 QB rating.

Brohm, btw was 10th. Brennan was #3. Tim Tebow was #2. And Sam Bradford of Oklahoma was #1, as a freshman, with 34 TDs, 7 Ints, 70.1% completion, and 180.53 rating.

            • I was probably wrong. Still surprised, but now for Bradford being #1. I certainly wasn't aware of that.

                • Any year against Oklahoma is a big game. If they were winless, it would still be a big game. Longhorns other big game is against the Aggies. I still consider Oklahoma a bigger game. I really am a Texas Tech fan. I lived there a year and a half, starting when I was 10. Donny Anderson was playing. Ever since, plus the fact it's awful country and I feel obligated, I've been a fan.

                  • Let the fun continue:

Michigan's pursuit of LSU coach Les Miles is apparently not over -- despite the fact that Miles signed a contract extension with the Tigers last week.

Miles spoke Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and university president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call, the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday.

Miles signed his contract extension at LSU on Thursday.

Michigan, which has yet to find a successor for the retired Lloyd Carr, had previously obtained permission from LSU to contact Miles about its coaching vacancy on the condition that it was after the Dec. 1 Southeastern Conference championship game. The Tigers will play Ohio State in the Allstate BCS Championship Game on Jan. 7 in New Orleans.

Miles' contract extension at LSU reportedly still contains a $1.25 million buyout he must pay if he leaves Baton Rouge for Ann Arbor. Miles played for Bo Schembechler at Michigan and twice was part of the late Schembechler's coaching staff.

Michigan associate athletic director Bruce Madej said the university is not commenting on the coaching search, and Miles' agent, George Bass, declined comment, the Free Press reported.

Bertman told ESPN's Joe Schad and the Free Press that he does not know if Miles, who has been on the recruiting trail for LSU, spoke with Michigan.

"I don't want to interfere with Michigan's ties to Les. If it was some other school it would make a difference," Bertman told ESPN. "Bill Martin is an honorable guy and did a credible thing by not speaking with him before the [SEC] title game.

Bertman said although he can't stop other schools from calling Miles, he remains confident that Miles will remain at LSU.

"He signed the contract on Thursday. So even if he did [talk to Michigan] I would think it wouldn't matter. Because Les wants to be here. He is an honorable man," Bertman told ESPN. "I don't believe he would lead anybody the wrong way."

Bertman told the Free Press that Miles' amended contract includes free tuition for his children at LSU, academic incentives based on his players' achievements and a double payment of his remaining deal if he is fired.

"Les made a decision he wanted to stay. He loves Michigan, but the truth is, for Les Miles at this time, this is probably a better place," Bertman said, according to the Free Press.

                      • Miles to Michigan would be great!

                        For ND fans.

If Michigan could have waited a couple of years, Corwin Brown would have been fully groomed.

                          • Bobby Petrino has resigned his position as coach of the Atlanta Falcons and is negotiating an agreement to become the new coach at the University of Arkansas, sources told ESPN.

Petrino goes to Arkansas. Wow... of course he'll last 2 years before a bigger school gives him a job .

                            • To those following the situation closely: Why doesn't Michigan promote English? Is it thought that more of a new direction is needed?

                              • Now I've been reading that Miles was just discussing the coaching search with U-M.

                                How long was Petrino there?

Edit: about English, I guess the feeling is he doesn't have head coaching experience, nor much as a coordinator. Though he still might be a better choice than some others (DeBord, Hoke).
