  • After the barn burning year Rutgers had, I don't blame them.

7-5 for a school with the recent (ie, 10-15 years) history of Rutgers is a good year. Though Schiano is a horrible game day coach and I'm not sure that'd sit well with the Michigan faithful.

        • I'd love to see Schiano at Michigan.

          • Rutgers' Schiano withdraws from U-M coach search

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano is no longer a candidate to become Michigan’s next football coach.

Schiano, a 41-year-old New Jersey native, had an interview with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin in New York on Wednesday but has withdrawn from further consideration, according to Michigan people close to the situation.

Rutgers spokesman Jason Baum told the Associated Press that Schiano met with his team this morning and told the Scarlet Knights of his decision.

Despite the interview, Rutgers sports information director Jason Baum said Thursday that Michigan had not asked for formal contact with Schiano.

Schiano was a viable candidate for the job and was thought to have interest in the position.

Those close to Schiano, though, have long thought he had too many factors keeping him in New Jersey, including his roots and local family, a significant financial commitment in his reworked contract after last season ($1.7 million a year) and even a tax-free loan and university property cleared for him on campus where he recently built a home.

This is the second straight year Schiano was faced with significant interest from a major football school. Following the 2006 season, when Schiano won numerous coach of the year awards while guiding Rutgers to an 11-2 record, he was wooed by Miami (Fla.) with a reported $2.2 million offer per season.

This puts Michigan’s search process, publicly at least, with no prominent high-profile candidates.

Two other known interviews were conducted by Martin, with U-M defensive coordinator Ron English and offensive coordinator Mike DeBord. Ball State coach Brady Hoke, a former assistant with retiring U-M coach Lloyd Carr, was contacted by Martin for a conversation that Hoke has said he did not consider a formal interview.

English is reportedly still a candidate for the Arkansas vacancy.

                  • Yep, the truth is that Peterson recruits aren't the ones on the field right now. It's Hawkins' classes that brought them a lot of this success. The next few years will show how good of a recruiter Peterson can be. Though I'm sure the win over Oklahoma helped a lot.

                        • Peterson was the OC before being head coach. Recruiting is an all hands on deck enterprise, so he deserves at least some credit on the offensive side of the ball.

                            • And, bottom line, Peterson outcoached Stoops in the Fiesta Bowl.

I keep hearing Stoops' name mentioned in the rumor mill (come on--no effing way), but never Peterson.
