The ESPN wonks are split between OSU-Oklahoma (May) and OSU-LSU (Holtz). Nary a mention of Kansas.

Strictly speaking the Rose doesn't have to choose the Illini, though they probably get a BCS bowl of some sort. If OSU is gone, Rose can take anyone they like for the opponent...

Well look at that. Way back when Wisconsin was still undefeated, I said that Illinois would be a top ten team and I was laughed at. While not a top ten team, you guys seem covinced that they will make a BCS game.

I feel redeemed.

Who are the two best teams? I have no goddamned clue. My hunch is OSU and LSU, but I wouldn't bet a wooden nickel on that.

Who are the two most deserving teams? That one, I know: Ohio State and Hawai'i. Dominant conference champions who had at most one loss. As it happens, those are the only two teams that would qualify for a playoff under the Guynemer System. XBox 360 results to come.


Sadly, the results yesterday assure us in NOT seeing what would likely be the most interesting possible bowl matchup: Illinois will go to the BCS, but Florida can not.

I think Ohio State-LSU will be the match up. The two best teams at this time are USC and Georgia.

Thinking about it more (and getting some sleep in my system) I've done a bit of a flip-flop and gone with LSU over Kansas to make the title game instead of vice-versa. Those two are still ahead of all the other candidates, though.

WAG bowl projections for the BCS:

National Championship - Ohio State v. LSU
Rose Bowl - Illinois v. USC
Orange Bowl - Virginia Tech v. Kansas
Fiesta Bowl - Oklahoma v. West Virginia
Sugar Bowl - Georgia v. Hawaii

Looks like Arizona State is going to get squeezed out unless the Rose forgoes its traditional Big Ten tie-in, which I doubt happens - Illinois will be eligible and they'll take 'em.

Though I consider the difference between USC and Oklahoma to be minuscule. Oklahoma could easily be my #2.
